Hi everyone, my 8 month old kitten has developed these black marks on his muzzle. I am wondering whether this is feline acne? It seems a rather unusual location? any advice and tips and tricks on how to help him clear this up much appreciated.

It's usually an allergy to bowls(plastic or stainless steel containing nickel)or to food.Common in light coloured cats. My Burmese had this 'chin acne' as a kitten, I treated it with Fuciderm gel from vet. This is antibiotic and steroid cream. This helped a little but then she went on to develop a full blown food allergy. The acne seemed to be where she put her chin in the food.Allergy tests are useless. She had 'hot spots' all over her body. I did exclusion diet which didn't help. It turned out to be a protein allergy, so she is now on Hills special diet. This is worst case scenario. You might be lucky with just Fuciderm, now called Isaderm .Good luck, this is a common condition. PS do not pick the spots, even though it's tempting!

Thanks very much Rosiedozy, that's really helpful information. We use ceramic feeding and water bowls and I have a vague suspicion it may be the new food that he's on so I think I will pursue that avenue of investigation! Really appreciate your advice, thanks :)
