Hey..so..new here and here to maybe put my mind at ease..and or get a second opinion..

Anyway. My Ivan is a 3 year old buff tabby. fully vaccinated. neutered. negative for FIV..Leukemia..all that jazz. And he is strictly indoors. This morning he was throwing up.. a LOT. At first it was just his food. Then it was bile. Then all of the sudden it turned to blood. I freaked out completely and immediately took him to the vet. After of course seeing which one had the best ratings.. lol. Anyway. There was nothing else wrong until that  moment. He eats, plays, drinks, and used the potty normally. Even after all this today. The vet told me the blood was most likely from the continuous vomiting. That its actually quite common for a cat to vomit blood if its been about back to back for a while because it strains their stomach an throat. Also he had a bit of a respiratory infection which contributed. The vet then asked if I just wanted the antibiotics or if I wanted him to run a full blood panel. Me being the obsessive loving cat mommy I am I asked for the full blood panel. (he said it eliminated all possibilities) His test results came back absolutely beautiful. The only thing was a slight spike in liver enzymes which is a good possibility for the nausea and asked what I fed him. I give him purina naturals and he told me most of those dry foods at walmart and what not contain chicken, and chicken is a very hyperallergenic protein/meat for cats and that can explain the spike in his liver enzymes if he had that food allergy and to move him to a food that has one of the three hypoallergenic meats (duck, venison, and rabbit) so I got him call of the wild wet and dry food, to see which helped his tummy more and which he liked more. (a flippin $60 purchase lol) but with everything he said Ivan was and looked completely healthy. However I feel like he is not fine..and Im totally terrified my baby is really really sick. Like I said everything is normal and as he typed this he is mowing down his call of the wild rabbit dry food. But does the vets diagnosis sound remotely accurate...or do you think he'll be okay? I dunno Im a complete nervous wreck and my little boy is everything to me..he was given antibiotics and milk thistle for his liver.

It could be he has a raw throat from the throwing up and it's causing the blood--my cat Penny has done this a lot. She often gets stomach ulcers and it causes for her to have acid reflex which then causes her to dry heave for hours on end and then she'll get something out and because she's been straining it causes blood to happen. I have taken her to the vet every time it happens and every time it's the same thing--stress on her throat and all that from the dry heaving or the constant throwing up. AS IT TURNS OUT... Penny eats anything and everything so most stuff is locked up in the fridge these days, she was chewing through the trash bin bags to get to food and that plastic would end up in her stomach blocking her from using the litter box---yep, had to take her for an enema and all the like for that. But overall, I wouldn't worry too much... if it becomes more blood, thicker and he's refusing to eat or drink then I would definitely take him back!

Thank you..eased my mind a little knowing her isn;t the only that goes through this. They gave me milk thistle for his liver, antibiotics, and an acid reducer so he doesn't throw up so much bile..but  it scares me having him so sick. I have extreme anxiety and he's actually my emotional support. he knows when Im having a bad attack, and we're very attatched to one another..I just hope he gets better and this new food also helps. Considering a small bag was $25 lmao. but nothing is too expensive for my baby

girl I know what you mean! My cats are like my kids and I don't care how expensive it is... if they need it they get it! Ivan reminds me of my Howie who passed away three years ago :-( orange tabby males always have my heart :')

but yes, don't worry... it is definitely a scary thing but if you don't stress then he won't stress. I've noticed a lot of the times when I'm stressed out my cats get the same way, the acid reducer should definitely help. Whenever Penny has these moments where she throws up too much and blood starts happening (even if she's struggling with a nasty hairball that won't come out) I give her some of the acid reducer and antibiotics and she's usually fine after a few hours, it's just GETTING to those hours that's difficult. But he will be fine, no worries. I'd just keep an eye on his activity, if he's hiding and you don't see him eat or drink.

He's definitely eating and drinking but he is hiding. but thats after I chase him around to give him his medicine hehe. and I swear this cat stole my heart from the day I rescued him from the shelter. but so far he has only had one vomiting fit since we've been home from vet. There was blood but this time it was only a single drop and it was miscolored..looked pink but I think that was from his acid reducer since its an orange color

Hadn't said anything, because I had nothing to add. Very grateful to never have experienced what you are going through. Been following, sending healing thoughts and prayers. Any updates?
