Is it just my cats or do all cats prefer cheap canned food to a better quality food? Is it like broccoli as opposed to French fries? My cats beg for the feral's wet Friskies until I give them a topper on their Soulistic or Merrick???????[emoji]128576[/emoji][emoji]128576[/emoji][emoji]128576[/emoji][emoji]128576[/emoji][emoji]128576[/emoji]. Should I just give in and feed my cats Friskies too? I would save a lot of money![emoji]128062[/emoji][emoji]10084[/emoji]️[emoji]128062[/emoji]

You could do a heck of a lot worse than Friskies pates while paying a heck of a lot more!

I've had to go the route of cheaper pates with occasional "good food". Medical bills for Sara trump "good food" unfortunately. I also have found store brands that are halfways decent and very affordable. I realize these are usually considered big no-nos but Sara especially loves them. And Sara gets whatever she wants right now.

I also look for anything that is on sale. Think I'll go to Petsmart this weekend and see if there is anything on sale there. Maybe Petco too.

Friskies is like eating a cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's... It's food but not very healthy. Soulistic and Merrick are waaayyy better!

Most of my money is going for Sara's medical expenses at this point. Friskies is not horrible - not great maybe, but not horrible.

I have five cats so buying four cans of anything might last me a day, lol.

Lol. Yes, I imagine having 5 cats would change that a bit. [emoji]128521[/emoji] Fortunatly my cats have never liked other kitties, so I only ever have one at a time.
I know what you mean about vet bills... Last year my kitten, Pandora, was diagnosed with HCM (heart failure) and cardiologists aren't cheap! She passed away at 14 months of age and i'm still paying off her expenses.

I'm so sorry about your baby! Sara has CKD, which became acute on chronic a few weeks ago, so been crazy since then. Yeah, five kitties can be a bit crazy sometimes, but I love them to pieces.

The Friskies pates are not so bad. The other ones are not necessarily as good, but most pates are decent. Their biggest fault when it comes to pates is they are almost always higher in phosphorus (which is bad for kidney cats). But Sara's on a phos binder now, so that's not a problem anymore.

So sorry Sara has CKD...as a vet tech I've seen far too much of that. I hope you get many more years with your baby. If there's any help or advice I can give you please let me know.

So far I have not had problems with Friskies Pate wet food. One of my cats is 21 ! ( I call her "Old Lady" ) We have had several cats live that long .
Your grocery store may give you a discount if you place a large order - like four 24 can boxes at once. I pay about .35 cents a can by doing this .

Best of luck to you .

Not my cat! He doesn't like the Friskies, loves the Merrick. Sigh. If only!

A lot of shelters use Friskies, so maybe that was what they were weened on, lol. I used to feed Rayna & Rhett Friskies until I started looking into food more closely. I don't miss the litter box stench.

Last October all 6 of my cats began refusing Friskies (I only fed them pate), several of them vomited and several of them had diarrhea. I was on the cusp of bring some to the vet, but they seemed okay. Back to Canidae and Triumph mostly and will never go back, I'm getting better food at virtually the same price.

My cats seem to be like that as well, My girl, Boogie Bear (10.5), seems to be the pickiest of the three. She and my boy, Sgt. Pepper, (9.5) have been with me since they were each only a few months old. They were pretty much raised on Friskies pates or shreds and Purina cat chow or Iams Proactive Health pates and Healthy Weight & Hairball Management kibble. It wasn't until 4 or 5 years ago that I changed them to Natures Recipe dry. They don't like that brand's wet food at all because it's shredded meat. Then maybe 2 years ago I started trying our senior dry foods. They've liked Iams Mature Adult and Hills Science Diet Active Longevity, but don't like Hills Ideal Balance Mature Cat. Boogie Bear begs for the Nature's Recipe when I put the Ideal Balance in the bowls. I'm think about looking into other weight management formulas instead of the senior kibble.

Those 2 seem to like Halo pates okay and they'll eat some Nutro pates. They won't touch Soulistic, no morsels, slices, or shreds for them. And minced must be very fine to be mistaken for pate. They weren't very impressed with Wellness pates. They were okay with a some Merrick limited ingredient formulas, but not so much with the Purrfect Bistros pates or Whole Earth Farms from Merrick. Oddly, they've liked 4 flavors of Best Feline Friend that is minced (not that finely), but it's all tuna and other fish so that's why.

Jumbo came to me 5 years ago. He's not as picky as those 2. He'll eat almost anything except Hills Science Diet or any K/D food that the vet prescribed for his kidney disease in September. After trying so many of the K/D formulas, I found that he really likes Merrick's LID turkey and chicken formulas. No it's not what the vet prescribed, but he's eating at least. His numbers were much better at his March follow up than they were were in September or December and they told me to keep doing what I'm doing.

Anyway, long post to say yes, at least 2 of my silly cats also seem to like the cheaper canned foods over the more expensive and "higher quality" canned foods.

My cats have been eating Friskies pates exclusively for 2 years now and I haven't had a single problem. The litter box odor is minimal and they don't poop very much at all.

Friskies and other Purina products are not the worst food you can give your cat.

Read the labels.  Some Friskies wet varieties/formulas are more suitable than others.  My gal like Friskies "bits" (chicken) a lot.  Then again, she has never really refused any food.  LOL.  She'll eat the pate flavors but she prefers that I chop it up first.  Sure, there are other brands with a higher protein content and cost twice as much, but again, read your labels.  A can of wet 11% crude protein will give your cat sufficient nutrition and can keep him/her your cat healthy.
