Hi all,

My 5 month old kitten was spayed 2 weeks ago. We have been monitoring her incision site ever since and we haven't detect any inflammation. Just half an hour ago, I decided to take her e-collar off (she has had it on everyday for the past 2 weeks) since it has already been 14 days. I caught her licking her tummy area and when I took a closer look I saw a bloody stitch sticking out of her incision site.

I'm awfully worried right now. What do I do? The spay clinic used dissolvable stitches. There is no further bleeding and she has been acting fine. I don't smell any foul odor coming out of her incision site and there isn't any white pus oozing out of the site either. Any advice will be really appreciated!

Thank you so much!

Can you post a photo? It sounds like she is likely find because it's been two weeks, but was it a lot of blood? You should also check with the vet.

As long as there isn't any extreme redness, swelling, or pus, it should be fine. The stitch was most likely pulled a little. You could call your vet and ask if it would give you peace of mind. Many times there may be a firm lump around or on the incision site, this is normal too, because of the swelling and sutures that are on the inside of the abdomen.  I have had many cats spayed and have not used a collar on any of them and they all have come through fine. At two weeks your cat can lick the sutures, they are most likely itching, as is the shaved area around them, just keep an eye on the area. All the luck and give her a kiss for me!
