After reading all the thoughts about this question, I have come to the conclusion that I would love to be able to afford a cleaning person....a maid....

Wouldn't that be great... I really dislike housework. Dishes and laundry I can deal with, no problem. The rest of the stuff could so easily be done by someone else..:blobgreen

Problem is: I cannot afford a cleaning person. There are many people in my building that have someone come in weekly or bi-weekly to clean the place throughly. I am very envious of them. The cheapest I hear for a quote is $80 each visit. That is too much for me to spend...:thud:

Washing windows really bothers (hurts) my shoulders. You would think I have so many. I only have 2 double windows and a sliding glass door. I live near the ocean and the airport, so they get grimy so fast. I have grown accustomed to looking out of yucky windows....sigh...
That is a lot of money. I pay $50 a visit.

For me it is dusting and vacuuming the furniture.  I don't mind vacuuming the floor, even moving the furniture to do a really thorough job but I hate vacuuming the furniture.

I used to think I would like to be able to hire someone to clean but I have changed my mind.  I would be one that straightened and cleaned before they came to clean.  I would also have to have them come in when I am not home because I would not be comfortable with someone cleaning up my mess while I am there.  I wouldn't be comfortable with someone cleaning while I am not there, even with bonding.  It isn't so much stealing as snooping, some people are just like that, or being mean to the kitties just because they don't like cats.
I've had my cleaner for 30 years. She also cried when lotto went to rainbow bridge.

Wow, both prices are low, If you ask me, but it all depends on the area, how much is done, how big the house, & how often the visits. Before I really started getting clients, I researched some conversations of others who do this, on Care.com. (I was familiar w/ this site, because I had had a nanny profile there for a while)  to make sure I was charging the average prices. I learned early on to charge by the job, not by the hour, because It's hard physical work, but I am efficient, & detailed oriented. Plus, the others were saying also figure in milage, etc...

All of my clients at this time are biweekly. They are anywhere from $75.00 to 135.00+    The lesser being a two bedroom condo that stays cleaner than most of my clients, & she is blind. To 135.00 for larger homes & more to do. One of my clients (the largest house I do, historical, downtown) always ask me how much when I'm done, & it's usually the same, but it's nice because that also gives me the freedom to do any little extra stuff needing done, or a little more detail in some areas, & charge accordingly. So sometimes, I can make extra money there. Sometimes, she will have a list of extra things to do, when I have time.

I also work alone, so one house a day is enough for me, physically. I have done two small jobs in a day, or a smaller one after a regular size one, if it's not too often.

I built my business up enough to live off of in a year, all from referrals!  One neighbor told another, one teacher told another, etc....  I have had all of my clients for 2-3 years now. So I have pretty much kept all of my original clients, since starting out.

I'm one of those strange people that actually likes cleaning. This is a good thing, with this many animals coming in and out of the house all day it would very quickly start looking like one of those houses form "Hoarders" if I didn't keep on top of the cleaning.

I vacuum twice a day, vacuum the bed and all the furniture as well. Do two huge loads of laundry a week. Clean all the sinks, the toilet and the bath daily. Wash dishes, scoop litter boxes and dust surfaces countless times a day.

The only thing I don't like doing is cleaning up cat puke. But then again, who does?

Wow----

Where do you get all the energy to do that?? I am exhausted just thinking about what you do.!!

The price quoted was for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath apartment. And these people are so clean.. I am a clutter person.. I guess you could say I am borderline hoarder...:LOL!

Seriously, I do get in fits where I just throw out a lot of things.. when I get in these moods, I clean, clean, clean, clean, to the point where my body is so sore the next day....

I have to wash the bathroom floors on my hands and knees because  of nooks and crannies...and of course, the tub is washed while I am down also....not good for a bad knee and shoulder....

Well, that's why I only do one a day! So, I may only be working for 2 &1/2 -4 hours a day, depending on which house I am at, but it's continuous work for that time, I don't take breaks. I want to get done. Then I can go.

It kind of limits what I can make, but I want to be able to do it for many more years. (so don't want to stress my body to injury. I've already had low back spasms a couple of times! I HAVE to stretch everyday!)

After working for myself, there is no way I could ever work for someone else again!
