I have an 8 month old male cat. I got him when he was very young but I think it may have been too soon for him to be removed from his mother and they lied about his age. He's recently hit Kitty puberty and has just been dying to get outside. Two months ago he actually managed to get out and was gone for 2 days he came home unharmed and we tightened our security in regards to keeping him in. Unfortunately 3 days ago he got out again he was gone for a day and came back seemingly fine. Yesterday I noticed that he slept a lot hadn't eaten or use the litter box much and was doing a little drooling but I thought the drill was because he was face-down in the carpet passed out. Then this morning he seems to have taken a major turn for the worse. He's sleeping constantly, he's not grooming himself and is starting to have a weird smell, he's not eating or drinking whatsoever or using the litter box comedy drool is out of control he can barely keep his eyes open and he's also doing this weird motion with his mouth kind of like chewing or something of that nature sucking his tongue or the roof of his mouth I can't really explain it but it's definitely weird.

He has an appointment to be neutered next month which will hopefully help with him trying to get out and I would love to take him to the vet immediately unfortunately payday isn't until next week. I have never in my life ever had a sick pet let alone a cat I feel so awful for him and that I didn't notice that the drooling may have been something worse yesterday. some people are telling me that he may have just caught a virus because it was raining and cold the night he got out but because he's gotten so much worse just overnight I don't know if a virus sounds right when I try to Google information it's coming up with diseases such as stomatitis.

Does anyone have any experience with these symptoms or what this may be or have any recommendations based on personal knowledge if I should wait or or what the case may be? Any suggestions on how to make him more comfortable or get fluids and food into his body? I've offered wet food and I've also added water to dry food to try to turn it into like a really watery soupy paste but he's not touching any of it I tried to wipe his mouth with a very wet towel hoping to squeeze some of the the water into his mouth but he wasn't having any of that...

I am not quite clear on what you are seeing so let's see if I get this right. Cat has been home for two days and this is what is happening:

 - drooling

- not eating or drinking

- not urinating or defecating

- sleeping lots

My guess is he is injured maybe around his face and the smell may be infection?

He needs to see a vet ASAP. In the future you may want to make sure there is a least a little kitty fund for emergencies.

Good luck

I also really think he needs to get to the vet asap. When I read your account of his getting out / symptoms... I thought maybe he has ingested a poisonous substance of some sort.

I know vets are expensive, but this seems really serious.

Has he been vaccinated?

If not, feline distemper is very possible, as it's extremely contagious and the symptoms kick in very fast.
