poor baby that's so sad! At least she found her way home though so she can be reunited with her babies. Have you introduced them back to each other yet? Do it very carefully, watch like a hawk, since she's in severe pain she could reject them. She'll do fine on three legs, one of the kittens I found last year had a missing left front leg, not sure what happened probably a raccoon or coyote, but now she's healed perfectly and zips all around her new home. So your momma cat will do just fine. she definitely should be spayed though, hopefully she didn't get pregnant again during her time away from home. Have you thought about talking to a rescue group? Maybe they could find homes for her and the kittens. Putting her back outside might not be the best option, since she does only have three legs she'll be at a slight disadvantage being able to defend herself. You're doing a great job, it was very kind of you to take them in!! Good luck keep us posted

He is going to ring me tomorrow morning for the "go ahead" I'll ask him if he is sure this is the best way to go about it. It's her front leg. I'll define try keep her inside till she is healed and well then get her spayed. I have home for 3 of the 6 kittens so far. I put 2 of the kittens in with her today and she started cleaning them immediately. But I took them out after about 3 minutes as they started pushing up against her leg and hurting her. So hopefully tomorrow she will be reunited with her family !

She's a beautiful cat!, I hope everything works out. But even if she has to get the leg amputated, she'll be able to get around in no time. Cats are resilient.

She may not feel up to being reunited tomorrow. She may be groggy from anesthesia and in pain from surgery.

Did they start her on antibiotics and pain meds today?

I'm asking catwoman707 catwoman707 for her opinion on whether the vet should try to set the leg before amputating. It's certainly "easier" to put a cat to sleep or to amputate, and her leg may never work as well again, but it seems to me that the vet should try to save her leg if possible. She's already endured pain, and whatever is done will involve more pain. Just because the bone shows through does not mean it's hopeless.

Do you have confidence in this vet? If not, I suggest you take her elsewhere. Just my two cents. Let's see what Catwoman says.

He didn't really say what he was going to do with her. He just took her into the back room and said he will ring tomorrow. I wouldn't have much expirence with this vet iv only been there for shots and stuff noting major like this. Yes I'd love if she would be able to keep her leg.

This vet may be all for amputating her leg because it's the simplest way, but for her to lose a front leg and have to live outside again is not good for her future.

When you are called in the am I would most definitely request he save her leg if at all possible, and with a bone sticking out it  can often be saved rather than amputating.

It would be different if she were an owned, indoor only cat, but her future sounds to me like that won't be a possibility unless she can be rehomed, maybe through a rescue group even.

Front leg loss is worse than a hind leg, neither is ideal for outdoor living but front is worse.

Also, there is no reason not to have her spayed at the same time, it's ridiculous and costly to have her spayed later, and she will surely be prego again since her kids are right at the age when mom goes in to heat again.

So please do both of you a favor and ask she be spayed as well.

Whatever happens with that leg, she can not be allowed back outside until she is healed as you know I'm sure.

Please ask the vet to save her leg. Do not say, if you can't save the leg, then amputate. Say, I want you to save the leg. We will try this first. If it does not work, then I'll bring her back for amputation at a later date. If you give him any wiggle room, he will off the leg and simply tell you it can't be saved. If you feel uncomfortable, immediately take her to a different vet. Make yourself clear that he's to treat the leg, not remove it. Prayers for you and your cat. I'd ring them first to tell them what you want, rather than wait for them to ring you. I hope all goes well whatever is decided.

OK so I'm just off the phone with the vet and I told him I was determined to save the leg. He then said that the leg was very very infected and that if he did save the leg it would be very ristricting and of very little use. I'm not going to argue so she is just going in for her operation now [emoji]128584[/emoji][emoji]128584[/emoji][emoji]128584[/emoji][emoji]128584[/emoji][emoji]128080[/emoji]

So he's saving the leg? Antibiotics will clear the infection. Of course the leg will not work as well, but she'll still have it. Good for you for being pro-active!

Yes, Kat021 is right.  Both you and mom have been through the wringer.  Thank goodness she came back home, you found her, got her to the vet and she is getting the medical care that she needs.  Another blessing is that the kittens are doing so well, and you have made all this possible.  I tip my hat to you, dear.

Poor thing.... thank you for all of your efforts to do what is best by her. If you are able to get in contact with a rescue, they would probably love to help you (if it does come to the point that your daughter's allergies are too bad and you will be unable to keep her inside). Believe it or not, the ones that have the visible injuries, like a missing leg, are often adopted even faster if done through a no kill organization like a Humane Society. Often times the Humane Society that I work at has so many applications so quickly that we are able to pick the truly best home within a very short period of time because people like to save the ones that look like they need to be saved more.
