About a month ago my cat had a fever of 102.1 very high. The vet I took her to said it may be an infection because of her not being sprayed so they gave her something to bring down the fever and some antibiotics. The doc said that the antibiotics given would last for three weeks so I wouldn't have to give her anything by mouth daily. This trip was all compliments of my mother, she took the bill because she knew I am struggling at this time. My cat was supposed to stay over night, we really wanted to get this problem solved but I got a stiff call back stating to come pick up my cat she is out of control and doesn't want to be there any longer. So after this trip and the next day Lady was doing so much better. Now over the weeks going past she had been sleeping like crazy and just getting so big out of no where. I got my cat in late 2014, and she has always been a very small cat because of the fact that we hadn't gotten her fixed. After the trip to the doctor she just was getting fat eating like a mad cat. My husband is not to fond of the cat but noticed that she is just getting big..really only in the mid section ..out of nowhere and quick. Now probably a month and a couple weeks later after the doc app. We have our younger nephews over to stay at our place. They leave for a couple of days after terrorizing the cat she is back to normal mood and functions but her butt is leaking a reddish brown substance everywhere. ND she is just licking her behind like crazy. And if it gets on the floor ita like she just has to lick it up off the floor..I put pads under her and if she smells it as I try to change the pads she will literally move you out the way to lick that pad to get the bloody thick substance off. I'm so confused because she is a house cat..never gotten out ever. So what is going on. I don't want to take her back to the place my mom took her because of awkwardness after dropping her off but I just don't know what to do at this point because I am short on cash

It sounds like she has an infection in her uterus (called pyometra). It's a very serious condition, and requires fast treatment. The fact that she's leaking fluids is good---it's called an open pyometra, and is not as quickly fatal as a closed pyometra---but it's still an emergency. Do you know of any other vets in the area that might be more pleasant to deal with? Are there any animal assistance groups that can help you with the bills? She needs treatment very soon :(.

She will need to be spayed (antibiotics should only be used to stabilize a pyo before surgery; they will not cure the condition), and it will probably cost more than a normal spay. But, if there are any low-cost spay clinics or vet schools in your area, give them a call. They may like the chance to give their employees/students a lesson on how to do a pyo spay.

Wow this is very serious and I really appreciate your response. Do most low cost spayed clinics do this surgery? I looked up the infection and I can't find the symptoms. So I was wondering if eating, sleeping and gaining weight heavily were any symptoms of it and the fluids of this aggressive disease, is it a brownish reddish substance or yellowish green.

Yes, she has a very serious infection and needs immediate attention.

Also, please don't let your nephews terrorize your cat. She is a living creature with feelings, not a toy.

I agree. Your cat needs a vet visit ASAP.

Pyometra is a very serious condition and, if she has this, it needs to be addressed TODAY. If left untreated pyometra is fatal.

In my experience, many of the low cost spay/neuter clinics do not do this type of surgery because it is not considered routine. You could certainly your local clinic and ask.

Is there any chance your cat could be pregnant? Has she spent ANY time outside? Even just 5 minutes?

The only time I took her out is when I took her to the vet about a month and a couple weeks ago. I was just explaining to the vet doctor that it's just unusual for her to gain so much weight and eat the way she has been in this past month. She has been sleeping like crazy, normal acting for the most part but just getting big. But she just doesn't get out. I live on the top floor of a 3 story building and I would have know if she gotten out. She is just a inside cat. I mean I weighed all the options. I leave the window open sometimes but like I said before its a long fall down, no trees around for her to commute in and out, and the vet trip..that's all. So we will see I really appreciate you all. With out this site and information I would b lost
