I'm taking my mother out to lunch for her birthday today, even though her birthday is Friday. Even since my father died, I have been taking her out to lunch for her birthday.

Do you have anything that you always do for your birthday? A special cake? A special meal? Take the day off? Treat it like any day?

My husband's birthday is the day before mine and we always go away on vacation. It started because his parents can be difficult and they were making us dread us birthdays, so we eliminated that by getting out of town. :lol3:

Very sweet tradition Karen!

I always take my birthday off from work. I'll usually set the day aside for "me time", whatever that might be. Mani/pedi, massage, etc.

Last year, I got stick having to work for the first time in decades.  Was not pleased.  Will not allow that to happen this year!

My birthday is just like any other day. DD is at school so it's just me and the furkids. I make a big deal out of DD's birthday. Her birthday is in March so it often falls during spring break so I'll take her out to lunch and get her a gift. She just had her 21st so I took her to Disney World- that's what she wanted. I just got her a new bed too. A queen sized. She likes it. If she is home for her birthday, I'll make her whatever kind of cake she wants. If she's at school on her birthday, I will either go there and take her out or have food and a dessert delivered to her room if it's during the week.

DH's birthday was always a big deal too. I made him whatever kind of  cake and dinner he wanted. For his gift, he always picked it out then just  had me pay for it.

We gave Lilith and Sophie the same birthday as DD's so they got toys and yummy treats for their birthday. They just turned 3. Bailey will be 14 in July. She "shares" a birthday with DH. She'll get steak or grilled chicken on her birthday with a Frosty Paws for dessert. Henry "shares" my birthday. He got a new catnip stuffie and they all had special treats on "our" birthday.

My birthday is nothing special. Rick does take me out to dinner and I usually get a birthday card from the furkids. That's pretty much it. This year, when I bought the iPad, he told me to pick out a case for it and he'd pay.

Our wedding anniversary is on April 30. Rick's birthday is May 4. Somewhere in between those days, I will give him breakfast in bed. I'll also make a special dinner for him or take him out to dinner, whichever he prefers. Most of the time, he likes me to cook something special.

But overall, birthdays really aren't celebrated too much anymore.

We don't really celebrate the cats' birthdays anymore. When Banshee was alive, I'd take September 20th off work and spend the day with her. Usually that was around the time the previous season of Supernatural came out on DVD, so she and I would flop on the couch for the day and watch SN DVDs. And she spent the day sleeping on me.
When she died, I quit celebrating birthdays with the kids. When Molli first came here, I celebrated her birthday, but didn't take the day off work for her. We just don't bother with the cats' birthdays much. A can of FF for the birthday cat is pretty much it.

Oldest son's bday is Oct 24, DH's bday is on Oct 31, our anniversary is Nov. 11 and my bday is Nov 15.  I have to get my own cake and by then I am caked out.

Last October DH didn't get his choice of cake for the work party.  Everyone's bday that month celebrated with a couple of cakes.  He wanted Key Lime Pie.  So DD made him Key lime tarts.  He wanted German Chocolate cake and I got him a bar German Chocolate cake from a fancy bakery that wasn't very good.  So DD decided to make him one, when we found one at Safeway.  It was delicious!  So he managed to get 4 birthday cakes.

It's just another day when you are a stay at home mom of 2 young kids. This year is my 30th and it falls on a Saturday. I think we are going to do something but I'm not sure what yet. We are talking about a vacation.

DH and I always go have a dinner alone for our birthdays.  A date night.  Our birthdays are 10 days apart; so we have an agreement not to ever call each other out and be sung to in the restaurant. We both HATE that!

My mother always makes my cake; but what kind depends on the year.  I always do a Chiffon cake with maraschino cherries for my mother for her birthday.  This year I used almond instead of vanilla in it and it was SO good!  My Gram always made that for her.  My friend and her mother have birthdays one day apart.  They always take off of work those days and go shopping!  That sounds like a good birthday to me!

My parents usually take me to Mackenzie River Company. :) I get a "free" dessert coupon in my e-mail so we eat dinner there then dessert. I usually get a personal pan pizza, salad and mud pie for dessert. Just a slice but it's a huge .. it has coffee ice cream, almonds, fudge on a chocolate cookie crust. So good.

It's just Hekitty and me, so my birthday is no big deal.  Hekitty does get me a gift, though.  She's an excellent shopper and always knows exactly what little something I would like to have.  And I generally order an absurd amount of Chinese food, enough to feed me at least 3 meals.

Mom always makes deviled eggs for my birthday :)

The last couple years, haven't done much for my birthday. For my 37th (in 2014), I went all out for some stupid reason. My friend can tell you more about that night than I could  Last year I was smack dab in the middle of an awful flu for my birthday. And this year was just... I dunno. I was missing Lucky, who "shared" my birthday that day, along with Sara and Maple. Well, I actually know for a fact Maple was born on my birthday, but Lucky and Sara just had it as a honorary birthday.

I'll be 40 next year. Not sure how I feel like that. Not sure if I want to go all out or hide.

...with the cats...
for each cat's birthday, i try to take the day off...as one of their birthday gifts -- a nice quiet day with mommy. for my own birthday, my tradition is to give my cats gifts -- because it makes me happiest to make them happy.
other than that, i don't bake a cake or make any meals specifically for my birthday. although, my birthday is during apple season here in northern NY State, so i try to have some fresh apples to enjoy and/or use in baking.

My ex buys me birthday presents always with an extra silly one of miss kitty.
The kids phone and sing and in the evening they phone again with the grandkids singing. That's my birthday. Oh my sister gives me something as well. Last year she gave me a gift card for $65. I bought a good perfume.
Any case that's it.
