If you have a Facebook account, you can post that picture above on your timeline, and it will go out to all your friends. You'll want to ask that they help you find a home for him. Hopefully, they will share on their own accounts.

Instagram is a posting site on smartphones. Since you don't have one, you won't be able to do that.

You could also list him on Petfinder - that's a website and on Craigslist, another website. But be sure to charge at least $50 for him to keep out the weirdos. And ask a lot of questions about what the buyers intend to do with him. Black cats can attract a lot of unsavory characters if you aren't careful.    He is on PetFinders, no nibbles although he has been on there for over two months. Yes I know about black cats in the US and the crazy people who believe they are witches' familiars and sent by the devil and other superstitous stuff. The supervisor of the CatClub has to approve all potential cat parents and we do charge a reasonable adoption fee. She usually checks out people very thoroughly although there have been exemptions like when a lady came from San Diego, some 100 miles away, to look at a cat who just could not get along with my resident cats (too young and rambuctious!) whom I had adopted from the CatClub  and that cat took to her right away and she fell in love at first sight, I talked to her for over an hour while she petted this cat. I have made a new friend, I visit about every two months and she visits me during the summer when it stays light  late (unlike me she does not drive after dark) and the cat has absolutely bloomed, has gotten a new sister, a Persian kitten who has taken over and after a year is as big as he is and he is a Maine Coon mix, so very large with cowhocks and splay feet, but a match made in heaven. I am hoping for something like that for Patrick. Thanks for the info re Facebook and Instagram.

I would put these pictures & your description of Patrick as a post on your Facebook account & ask your friends to spread the word about him. I found a home for a beautiful ginger stray that came for dinner that way. Also, in your Facebook app, you can search for cat rescue organizations in your area. Most of them have FB pages & you can ask that they share your post on their page. The more "eyeballs" that see Patrick only increase his chances of finding a home. I live in FL so my friend network wouldn't be of much help to you in CA. Perhaps there are some people here on TCS that live near you.

@Catwoman707 -- if I'm not mistaken -- don't you do rescue in CA? Would you be able to help out with making inquiries?
Yes I do, but am in Northern California, Bay Area.

As I read this thread through I thought that there are a few things that might be helpful, he is such a handsome guy, young, I see in that pic of his intense stare he is still playful too.

It's really all about exposure.

I want to comment on another thing, if that person who is in charge of adoptions does not agree with some of my suggestions then maybe she needs to find him another foster home, or take him herself.

Too bad you weren't up this way, we would gladly take him at the humane society that I am on the board of directors with as their cat 'ambassador' so-to-speak, and also co-founder of a cat rescue group in Solano County that I run.

People contact me asking for help like this, rehoming an adult cat, and while I have a limited amt of space in foster for adults, due to my fosters having their own resident cats who protest a great deal about newbies coming to their homes, I offer people to sign up as a self foster.

This means they bring the cat to the weekend adoption events we have at Petco, and also are able to stay at petco for 2 week stretches, sxo there are always cats rotating in and out of the petco enclosures.

I also ask for a great short bio and good pics and post them on rescuegroups, which is a site that sends posts out to petfinder, adopt-a-pet, several, even abay!

So you might consider searching non profit cat rescue groups in your area for that.

An excellent, attention catching bio and pics are the sellers. I see you've got some good pics already, some of my best bios have been when I write it like it's the cat's words and thoughts. Not a sob story, but more like how special he is, prince charming, well mannered (unlike those little unruly varment kittens!) -in his words of course. None of that silly kitten nonsense, he is past and above all that!

The black thing is not superstitious like people think, I have seen countless times, everyone wants kittens, so a couple months in to kitten season I have my first herd of kittens ready and go to adoptions, cage after cage, all adorable of course, but there is something more attracting about marked/striped/bullseye/tabby/siamese/calico/tortie/and grey that just gets people's attention. The blacks mostly are looked right past, and it has always hurt my heart for them.

Occasionally people will specifically come for a black cat, I know I would, I adore black cats!

Often when writing a bio for a black cat, I will say the reasons why choosing black is the best, like because they go with every color scheme in the house, are slimming to hold next to you, things like that.

People love it.

Craigslist is going to open up a wide range of viewers, and if you joined here, you can create an account there too, or google how to create a craigslist post.

As far as him being abused, he is showing typical behavior for a low socialized cat.

Seniors live quiet lives, nobody coming by daily, so they get used to that way and become only used to their owner, simply due to lack of exposure, so now he has been uprooted, which is super stressful for them, so that's what the hiding, and lack of trust is about.

But he will adapt again to a new home, preferably with an older person or couple, no kids, dogs, etc.

In time, and that's all he needs, he will adapt to a new home.

This is why I will not adopt a kitten out to a senior, unless they can convince me they have a plan set up in case the cat outlives them.

It just kills me to see 14 yr old cats at the shelter who will be euthanized if a rescue doesn't go and pull them. This is who suffers when there is no plan. Very, very sad.

He has been on PetFinders for several months and I have now put him on my facebook page.

At this time he finally will not run from me, will even sit next to me and let me pet him but picking him up is still a no-no. The vet just told me he has megacolon which is why he easily gets constipated and has to take MiraLax every day.  At this time I expect that I am stuck with him but won't adopt him as because as long as he is a foster the cat club/adoption program has to foot the bill. That is something I can live with as I can always say that he is not MY cat, that I am ONLY fostering him and am not telling a lie.

In time, and that's all he needs, he will adapt to a new home.

That is a good plan to not adopt him so you will not have to be responsible for vet bills. Nor will you be lying by saying he is not yours :)

Poor guy :(

He's really a very sweet cat and after this long a time it would be hard to give him up but if there were a kind soul who would take him I would be happy nevertheless. It could turn out like the cat who went to San Diego: new home for the cat and a new friend for me. One can always hope.

What a beautiful boy! Posting him on facebook was a good step. If your friends "share" your post, a lot of people will see him. I wish I could take in another cat but currently have 5 black cats -rescues that were never adopted, so I kept them.

What a good black cat lover you are. I would have a dozen black cats if I could. I think black cats are absolutely gorgeous and can't understand why people in this day and age are still thinking that they are different from any other colored cat. I am pretty much convinced that I will have him forever.

I KNOW it is crazy. I have had cats for the past 25 years and I've never had anything but black cats. I have always wanted an orange cat, but when I go in to adopt, I see all the other cats getting adopted, but tons of of black kittens and cats in cages that nobody wants. I'm a city girl, but often think about moving to the country so I could rescue them all!

I love my black cat! He's so sweet! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

The shelters in my area (Florida) routinely have more than half the cats up for adoption being black cats. I don't understand the aversion to black cats at all.

I got mine when the pregnant stray I took in had him. I never even thought about not keeping him.

Your foster cat is beautiful! He looks to be thriving under your care!

@segelkatt   I am happy to see this cat with you and not in a shelter.  The year he has been with you is time spent in a real home and learning no all people are scary. What a beautiful cat.

I didn't read the whole thread but the brown is a lack of some non-essential something (brain no working)  I seen it posted on the site somewhere and you could search for it.  You can get supplements for it.  But I agree that it makes him a little more special.

I have a smaller DMH black cat and he has nice dark brown color all over and grey underbelly/armpit fur too.  People like it! I would post the pics that highlight that.

Somebody actually came today to have a look at Patrick. The prospective new mom had recently lost one of her cats and her other one was moping and needed a companion. Just looking at what she put in e-mail I did not think she would be happy with Patrick as she wanted a friendly cat who would play with her other cat. She did not get much of a look at him either. He was sitting on a chair on the patio, she thought he looked beautiful. But the moment I opened the patio door he zoomed off that chair and past us into the apartment and under the table, barely peeking out. When I tried to pick him up he ran under the big easy chair, making these pitiful noises as if somebody had done something awful to him and he was afraid it would happen again. So we settled down to chat about cats and this one in particular, hoping he would eventually venture out. She finally decided that she really wanted a cat that would be more friendly and which would come up to her like my other black cat, Panthera, had done right away. The whole time Patrick did not come out and even after she had left he did not come out for several hours. Then he acted like he was really scared, when I finally did manage to pick him up he was shivering although he was purring at the same time. Yes, I know that cats can purr when they are scared, I think something about this woman scared him, who knows what, she wasn't loud or anything, didn't come near him and he just zoomed by her, actually bumping into the wall on his way past her and under the big chair.

It sounds like Patrick really picked up some vibes today and became very skittish. Cats really do have a way of "knowing" things sometimes. It's sad to me that he was so scared that he was shaking. Poor boy.

I'm so sorry Patrick got spooked. Didn't he hide and all that for a long time when you first started fostering him? It'll probably take him just as long to get used to someone else. Poor boy.
