Hello all! Please help me before I have a heart attack. I just took on mommy role for a kitten whose age is unknown. An adorable little thing who's mommy abandoned him and his siblings. He was found in a barn with one dead sibling the others were believed to have been taken off by other critters at the farm. He was clearly starving...once he was found the nice people at the barn were giving him canned food. My friend told me this story and having no experience with kittens this small I said I would take him.

I picked him up and took him directly to the vet who advised me that the kitten was probably about 5 or 6 weeks. I sat with him for about an hour and he gave me the run down on kitten care. He told me word for word that I should be offering him a bottle after eating soft food. He even taught me how to hold the kitten when bottle feeding him. I got him Nature Balance kitten formula and GNCs kitten formula to feed him after the nature Balance. The vet told me you can get a bottle at any pet store or use an eye dropper. I got the bottle. Keep in mind this kitten has teeth that the vet could clearly see. The kitten ended up biting off the nipple of the bottle. He was crazed and I tried so hard to reach in that adorable little mouth and pull it out before he swallowed it but I completely failed. I immediately called the vet who was unavailable. I called an emergency animal hospital who said that there was nothing they could do he's so young. I called another place that said to try to induce vomiting with Hydrogen Peroxide. He didn't puke. I later talked to the vet who said this isn't normal but it isn't abnormal. Watch him carefully and he will likely pass the nipple considering its size. He said the manufactures make the nipple knowing things like this happen...its been 4 days now and the kitten seems to be playing and popping and eating normally...but I am just not convinced. He puked the first day...he puked up hay and wood. Probably from the barn. He has blood in his stool. Not a lot and the vet said its from the deworming medicine.

I am still freaking out and I can't help just thinking how is it possible for him to swallow it and pass it he is so tiny. Is this vet crazy?? Is my little guy going to be okay? Has anyone had this happen before????????? Please help me.

We are 4 days in...pooping, eating, playing...he's puked twice on the first day but nothing since. He's pooping a lot like 4 times a day...I've been checking it and idk if I missed it but no sign of the nipple. I thought I saw a chunk of it in his poop but it could have been hay or wood. It was very hard to tell because the texture was so strange.

I am absolutely horrified I let this happen and I just need to know there is a chance he is really going to be okay. I know the vet said he'd be fine but I still have a terrible feeling in my stomach... Please help me.

The kitten should be fine.  The fact that he has been pooping means there is no blockage.  It will pass if it hasn't already.  No worries, it happens all the time.  Try offering the KMR in a dish.

Thank you so much for your reply. I've been giving him the KMR in a dish. He swims in it it's adorable :)

He's already passed it. Relax. One of my kittens did this. No worries! Is he eating wet food well for you now? When kittens bite the nipple they are ready to drink their kitten milk from a dish. Thanks for saving this little guy from a terrible future! [emoji]128149[/emoji]

Such a relief!! Yes he's eating the wet food and LOVING it. He keeps trying to go for my older kitty's dry food! He's a hungry little man. Here he is :) couldn't get a good picture of him face first in the KMR dish. He just doesn't stay still!! He usually has his head and both front legs in the dish with him haha. He's such a joy

He's probably ready for his own kitten chow now. You should provide that 24/7, and supplement with the wet food 4-6 times a day, along with the KMR. Kittens this age need to eat very frequently. He's a cutie! [emoji]128149[/emoji][emoji]128062[/emoji]
