Howdy folks-  My little Bear Cat ended up in the ER this weekend and I would appreciate some Cat Site feedback. Sunday morning, before we noticed anything was wrong, we had  fed him and he ate normally. Then we started to notice little puddles all over the house.  He had drooled so much overnight that the puddle on the couch was one and a half cushions long and about a foot wide and he was still drooling like a leaking faucet. Once we figured out the puddles were coming from his mouth we took him over to the emergency vet.

The x-ray showed his stomach was huge and full of air. The vet said there was a mass in the bottom of his stomach and that she was not sure what it was (we are pretty sure it was his food since the x-ray was about an hour after his breakfast, but they just aren't used to seeing homemade raw rather than canned mush). Fast forward 24 hours- a third set of fasting x-rays shows the 'odd mass' has moved down into his intestines, the air is mostly gone, his stomach is back to a normal size and the drooling has stopped.

I spoke with our primary vet this morning (this is only our 2nd visit with him since we just moved to the area 9 months ago) and he basically said that Bear is good for now and we should keep an eye on him. Not much of a conclusion in my opinion, so here I am asking for more help in figuring this out.

I am concerned about where this gas came from. I did some searching yesterday but I could find much about air in the stomach. Does anyone know much about what could cause air in his stomach like that? What I can do to prevent this in the future?

Some basics about him- He is an Indoor only 2.5 year old neutered male. He eats homemade raw food due to a chicken allergy, his mom and sister eat the same. He had a urinary blockage due to stress a year ago and a subsequent PU and revision surgery. He was probably slightly stressed by some house guests we had this past weekend, but nothing crazy. Also, he ate more sardines than normal this week ( we give them as a meal 3 to 4 times a month, but we fed them three times this week).

I appreciate any feedback!

That is weird! Can cats get bloat like dogs do? I'm not even sure, maybe someone else can chime in.
