Wendy, you did the right thing. That Vet was out of line for treating you that way!

Makes me so mad!!

I am surprised she did not do an x-ray. I think ultrasound would be too invasive...shaving Naomi's belly.

Just keep a watch on her, if it seems to be increasing, then I would be right at the Vet's office demanding an x-ray!

You are doing awesome!!

So happy that things are calming down.  I missed a couple of days, and am sitting here all teary eyed over the loss of little #9.  But it's a major miracle that eight kittens were born alive and healthy, and that mama is doing so well.  We take what we can get, and do our best with it.

Rest you gentle, Little # Nine, dream you deep.  You were noticed in this world, and not forgotten.
My thoughts exactly.

It's very sad about the last little kitten, but it's wonderful that the others are doing well. You and those two Mother Cats are doing great.

What an amazing story! I just found this thread yesterday and spent the whole evening catching up here and on your FB page. Thank you so very much for fostering Naomi and Wynonna and giving them a safe place to give birth, thank you for caring about their babies so much, and thank you for sharing their story with us. I hope you find a way to share their story more broadly, and that it encourages more people to foster and give to rescue organizations. I'm really looking forward to more pictures and updates on this inspiring family!

This is the sweetest picture I think I have ever seen.

You are doing a great job with these two queens and their babies. Just try to relax and Naomi will relax. Many cats will feel your anxiety and it will make them nervous. She and you have been through a lot these past few days and you both deserve a break.

I'm sure she would share a glass of wine with you if she could, LOL.

Good Lord, that was a lot of Typos!  Sorry for that!

I am busy,  and prefer it a wee bit quieter, but everything is great. I've just checked in on the babies

In birth order:

  Birth weight   Today

1.  106 - 190

2   107 - 162

3    103 -176

4    106 - 159

5    107 -161

6     122 -185

7   120 - 191
(they nursed a few times before I weighed them)
8    112 - 186
The smallest ones are the wee black ones. I noticed they have always been smaller. They seem sated, and my plan, now that I am home, is to plop them on mommas when other have nursed.Anyone know if cat hind milk is richer, like in humams?

So, I had 2 hours sleep and a cup of coffee.

Last night got a little rough. Naomi would bleed quite a bit, and it it took her FOREVER to pass the placenta.  The poor kittens would be attached to her through the umbilical cord and just cry and cry and she was exhausted.
dThen, Wynonna would come over and help. She's  either chew off the cord, or she eat the placenta.  They ate 6 between the both of them, and I took the rest away.

My plan was to let the newborns nurse from Naomi then place 2 on Wynonna, but the 2 Queens refuse to be seperated.  So I'm watching babies and birth weight closely.

Here's the breakdown
Kitten 1   Black and white tabby head  106 g
Kitten 2   Black kitten, marked red under arm  107 g
Kitten 3  Calico  103G
Kitten4  Black- marked green  106 G
Kitten 5  Black with white marks 107 g
Kitten 6 Orange  122g
Kitten7  2 colors 120 G
Kitten 8  Orange white tummy  112 G

ANd here are the brave, wonderful Moms

12 kittens in all!
This is a picture worth having printed in a magazine or something. It's wonderful.

Thanks Wendy for the update!  The kittens seem to be growing well, but what do I know??

Thank you for just being you..and an 'assistant' mom to them....

They are 6 days old and the weights range from 5.5 ounces to 6.75 ounces, so they are doing great! Ideally, they should double their birth weights by the end of the first week, and weigh about a pound at 4 weeks old. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Oh, great!  i was a little concerned the smallest one hadn't gained enough. They seem healthy, tho,  I'll just keep swapping them off with the other mommas when I catch them with an opening lol

There you go! But if a particular kitten fails to gain on a given day, do make sure to supplement that one. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Glad to hear they're all doing well. I've heard that the teats closest to the back legs are the best ones to nurse from.

Is that what you meant by hind milk?
