Hi, I'm new so bear with me[emoji]9786[/emoji]. I have a pregnant kitty, very big, gotta be about to give birth. I have confined her to the guest bedroom complete with nesting box, litterbox, food, h2o, cat tree. I opened the blinds so she can see outside, my point is she has everything she needs for comfort. But she claws at the door nonstop and meows and seems crazy to get out! It's only been a few hours but I feel like I'm being so mean to her. If I let her out she'll get outside and then God knows what will happen to her. How can I make her more comfortable? Am I right to confine her? By the way, she's a semi feral that I finally got hands on today and brought her inside.

Ah, you do it right, but she isnt used to be inside as you yourself  tell.  She perhaps isnt really knowing what a litter is for. - Or had you noticed she knows??

Also, the nest should be a darker corner, where she can feel comfortable.  If you cant make a darker, more inclosed corner for her, you have got to close the blinds.

Tx for caring, and please continue to report and ask questions!

You've done the right thing! She needs to stay inside. A semi-feral cat will initially feel anxious about being shut in a room, but she will calm down over time, especially after kittens arrive, and she has such a nice, safe place for them.

Try to spend as much time with her as you can. I don't know if she allows petting, but even just sitting in the room with her to read, and speaking softly and gently, will help. She'll grow to trust you.

Let us know when kittens arrive, and if you have more questions! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Thanks so much for the help y'all. Any way to tell how close she is to birth? As long as I approach gently she lets me pet her, last night I felt the babies moving!! Like little kicks and somersaults, AMAZING[emoji]128512[/emoji]. Anyway, she's big as a house, babies moving like crazy, but it doesn't seem like there's any milk. We're going to the vet Monday morning so all this may be moot, but I would like to know if I'm going to be a granny if the next couple days[emoji]128513[/emoji]

Sometimes the milk comes in just before or after she gives birth.

just wanted to update you guys, last night we delivered 5 healthy kitties! On my bed!! Lol. And semi feral mom ( her name is Stella) is practically stuck to my side[emoji]9786[/emoji]. Is it normal for her to be so attached to me?

Yes, it's normal. She is seeking comfort and security from you. It's a good sign, and congratulations! [emoji]128522[/emoji]

Okay, another silly question. New mom Stella is doing well, taking good care of her babies. My question is should I spend time with her or leave her alone to do her momma thing? She's still confined to the guest room but won't eat in there, insists on coming out to the kitchen. I just wonder if she's lonely or am I over thinking this? My thinking was that she would feel safer without people around, but I may be wrong.

She won't want to be around a lot of people or strangers.  Please visit with her and the kittens so they can begin to be socialized.

Agreed. And you are not most people. If she wants to spend time with you, you should let her.

Okay, as promised, pictures!! This is Stella with her SIX babies. So far healthy and beautiful[emoji]128512[/emoji] I'm going to keep the whole family until the babies are weaned, then everyone will be neutered \spayed and hopefully adopted. Wish me luck!

Very sweet! Mom and babies can all be spayed/neutered when the babies are 8 weeks old. They should stay with mom until they are 10-12 weeks old at least.

Thanks for all the great advice! The new family has the entire guest room so 10-12 wks is no problem. Also our local rescue runs the shelter for the county and will provide help with adoptions. I know better than to take them to shelters but ours is no kill(of course there are exceptions), so I will keep them as long as I can.

With six kittens you will have some runts.  Weigh them at the same time everyday to make sure all are gaining 6 - 10 grams or .2-.4 ounces.  You can rotate the kittens or put the smaller ones to moms nipples while the bigger kittens are asleep.
