Hi, everyone, this morning at 9:30 I am supposed to be able to pick up my cat Butch from the vet. I havent got him home yet but I am sure the problem is a bladder infection. This will be the second one in about 4 months. My question is: What causes cats to get them? He is an only cat and does not have contact with other cats. He is allowed outside with supervision only. Well, anyway, does anyone out there have an answer? The only thing I can think of is that because it is winter and raining, maybe he is holding it too long? Butch does not like to use a litter box and will only do so if it is pouring rain....otherwise he wants to be escorted to the back yard to take care of things.... thank you for your help

There's a bit of a difference between a bladder infection, and a urinary tract infection. Have they been telling you exactly what it is? If he's having problems with bladder infections time after time, there may be an underlying problem and they need to do an ultrasound or other tests. If it's a urinary tract problem, it could be his diet, stress, or he's just pre disposed to it. Either way, if they keep coming back, the cause needs to be found

Dear Sandie, thank you for your response
, no they didn't say, they gave me some meds(Clavamox) that he is to take twice a day and to be rechecked in ten days(Feb. 13). Other than the one other time he has never had a problem, but I was just curious if his holding it too long because of the rain could cause it, the vet didn't seem overly concerned....I guess I am an overreactive cat mommy
