My Cat Popped a Balloon - Should I Be Worried About Hearing Damage

I know cats have far superior hearing than humans, and I do believe that means they are more susceptible to hearing damage from loud sounds.

Recently, I had a balloon lying around the house, and my cat went up to it and popped it. It was extremely loud, even for a balloon, and even though I was across the room. She has never been exposed to loud noises like that on any sort of basis. Should I be worried that I damaged her hearing? She looked a little bit startled, but calling her name I could see that she was responding.

Doubtful that one episode of a popped balloon will cause any permanent hearing loss. At most, perhaps something temporary like ringing in the ears or muffled sounds. But, I would think this would be fairly brief.

If she is responding to you calling her at a normal tone, it sounds like all is ok.
