I am very new at having a cat that has had kittens, she just had 5, and one that did not make it; any advice? I have been reading everyone's posts, and want to make sure I give her and the sweet little babies all the help and comfort I can.

Congrats on the kittens. I am new to the Cats birthing kittens too but have learned a lot thanks to some great advisers. Get her a good size nesting box in a darker part of a room. Make it to where it is warm in there. Also give her as much food and water as she wants. Put it and the liter box close to her because she wont want to go far from them. Give her as much or as little attention as she wants.

It will also help to weigh the kittens every day. That way you can step in to supplement as soon as one isn't thriving.

Do you plan to have mom spayed when this litter is weaned?

Mom and babies can all be fixed when the kittens are 8 weeks old. She can get pregnant again within a week of delivery, so should be 100% inside and away from intact males until the spay.

Yes she will stay in, and I do plan on getting her spayed and I will get the kittens fixed as well.

Do you have any questions?  I'm assuming if you've read other threads, you have the nest in a dim and quiet place w/a heat source if necessary. Also that you are feeding mom all the dry and wet kitten food she wants.  And that the water, food and litter are near her nest.
