Leave her in the closet. You can put her food and water in there with her if you like, and put the litter box outside the closet. However, it's perfectly normal for her to "step out" to eat or relieve herself or say hello once in awhile, usually while the kittens are sleeping. Or she may prefer to come to the kitchen. My cat lived in the closet for 3 weeks with her kittens, one time not coming downstairs for a solid week, because I put everything she needed in the room. But she laid outside the nest sometimes when they were sleeping. After 3 weeks she moved them all to my bedroom down the hall (she had been in the guest room), and they stayed in my room for a few more weeks. [emoji]128522[/emoji]

They're adorable! And I'd say it's ok for now for her to leave the kittens for a bit to go about her business. She won't leave them for very long, in any case

You're going to hate this but you have to move the litter box near the closet.  It doesn't have to be inside but close enough so she is comfortable leaving her kittens to use it.  You also need to have her food and water nearby.  New moms don't like to leave their kittens for long.  You can't move the nest as you have seen.

Right now she does have food and water right next to the nest but she still prefers to come and eat it downstairs with the dog I guess.. She's a good mommy. She's left them twice to come to the living room with me so I'm guessing my best bet is to stay with her to encourage her to stay with the babies. What is the normal weight for a 2 day old kitten.. Kitten # 5 only weights 2.9 oz compared to the rest that weight between 3.4 and 3.9oz. I've had to help Roxy get the kittens all in for feeding a few times, one wasn't eating unless you put his mouth to the nipple

There's an article on the site about kitten weight and why is important to weight them to monitor growth, though i can't find it on my tablet :p Kitten no.5 is on the low end of the spectrum, but still within a healthy weight. Make sure that it is getting enough milk

Weigh the kittens at the same time every day.  Their weight fluctuates duing the day.  You want to see a gain of 6 - 10 grams/.2-.4 ounces minimum.

Try putting kitten #5 to mom's lower nipples (best milk producing) when the larger kittens are asleep.  This way she can eat without getting pushed off.

Here is the article.

Agreed. If she's a lazy eater she needs putting to a bottom nipple or supplementing, or perhaps both. Make sure she gains every single day. Keep a close eye on her. Not rooting for a nipple is a red flag!

So all the kittens have been feeding just fine now. I'm thinking #5 is the runt. Poor thing is always wandering away from mommy and ending up calling her for help! When they feed they fighting over the nipples so I have to help them find their spots. Roxy has been cleaning them and doesn't like them being too far from her. She heard one crying and started growling. We encourage Roxy as much as possible and she likes me helping her with the kittens.. I try and let her do as much as possible but when the kittens fight she doesn't really react much. She likes to come hang out with us when we are in the living room but won't let us move the nest. I guess mommy knows best! I have been checking on the kittens feeding to ensure they are all getting their milk and none is left out. We want healthy little kitties. Formula might be needed if the weight doesn't go up for our little number 5

Okay, sounds like you are on top of things. Are you weighing #5? It's the only way to know if it's getting enough.

Yes I'm weighing all the kittens to make sure they are all getting enough.. I've also been checking up on them every hour or so to make sure they are okay and all eating. I slept by the nest yesterday and I will tonight as well. I want to make sure my kitties are good and loosing sleep is worth it :)

Update! All the kittens have gained weight.. Even #5, which I think we will call Cena. Roxy used the litter box yesterday, after we moved it closer to the nest. They are the cutest little kittens, Roxy sure has a lot of work with them. I'm absolutely in love with them and look forward to seeing them grow everyday :)
