hi my 11 month old cat has got that red line across him gums ( stomatitis ),  he has had several anti biotics, steroids and his teeth cleaned and polished, but I can see it coming back again.  it doesn't seem to be annoying him, its annoying me more as I have read all about it and it says it can be reversed, but iv tried, the denta bites, gel,   .  if I got all his teeth out, would this definitely cure the stomatitis.  ?     it doesn't seem fair as he is only 11 months old

Stomatitis is a horrible disease that I was always told was not contagious, however it is very contagious and have a household to prove it.  We have had 3 kitties so far have all their teeth pulled due to stomatitis, it has in their cases cleared up their gums overtime, but it can take several months. I have been told by our vet that this is not always the case, that sometimes it can spread down into their throat, in which case outlook is not good.   I personally would not recommend this unless your vet feels that it is your kitty's only option.  Good luck to you and your kitty. :)

hi, thank you so much for your reply,   I had said its stomatitis,  its actually gingivitis, .   has any of your kitties had that ?   its just 2 years ago I took in a stray and he had really really bad gingivitis and had to get him put to sleep, as he as on too many steroids which wasn't curing it.    my 11 month old now I have him from 6 weeks,  and I'm so afraid that it will end the same way, so I'm trying to resolve it before it does.    would you get his teeth pulled ?

I personally would talk it over with your vet to see what the best option would be, maybe get a second opinion to ease your mind as to the best possible solution for your kitty.  Please keep us updated.

Stomatitis is a hard road for everyone. I just had all my boys teeth removed. We are day 6 post op. He had been eating well up till today, he's eaten but I think the stitches are bothering him/itchy mouth.
My cat stopped eating in January, he had a grass seed in his jaw and it was infected. Back a month later for a teeth cleaning and dental vet gave me the bad news. I just didn't know how bad his mouth was.
He was in a lot of pain right after, they gave me a oral pain medication Buprenorphine. I couldn't get it in his mouth, I took him back to the vet 3 times a day for a couple days to get his medication in. I'm lucky my vet is 24 hours. I've heard that some cats are in pain a lot longer and may need feeding tubes. Vet did tell me this could be the case.
Make sure your vet is going to do X-rays before and after surgery to make sure they get all the roots. Very important. I hope your cat has a fast recovery.
