No, I'm not talking about the cat hoarders, but rather, this:

There are so many associations with women and cats, but what about men? How many men are out there who are devoted "cat people"? Surely there are more than just myself, right?

Now, don't get me wrong, I love dogs...I just prefer the company of cats to having to get up in the middle of the night to watch Fido sniff over 40 acres before finding that one perfect spot to finally go pee...and it's not from a lack of loving affection of those slobbery little floppy eared, tail wagging bouncy bundles of drool - it's just that cats have...I don't know...always been there to soothe me, to calm me, and yes, to teach me.

I am a certified "cat person"...and I am male.

How many of my brothers are out there to stand beside our fiery, fiercely independent, understanding sisters and loudly proclaim, "Cats Rule, Dogs Drool"?

Post your proclamation, and show your feline family member(s) to the world! I've already shared mine in another thread...now it's your turn!

My husband, Rick (also known as Dear Richard on TCS), is a certified Cat Gentleman. His butt hits the couch and three kitty butts hit his lap, just that quickly. He has so much patience with the clan and he loves those kids as much as I do, maybe even more. When he's home and I'm at work, he'll text me with a picture of whatever a cat is doing. He has more pictures of the furkids on his cell phone than anything else. And he's always willing to whip the phone out to show the latest picture he took of them.

Rick never had cats; when he lived at home, they always had beagles, so he was very much a dog person. He married me and I've always had a cat. We had Hydrox forever. Then Whisper joined the family and it turns out she was pregnant. And the rest is history. We've had six cats forever and ever. And ever since, I don't think I have any pictures of Rick that don't have at least one cat in them, too. They just love that man.

Back in November, we took in Rick's mom's dog, Jackie (the beagle, AKA The Beast). We had an Alaskan malemute years ago, so I was used to dogs, but it had been a good 30 years or so since he died from cancer, so it had been a while. Took some getting used to, I will say that. But Jackie is a good dog, even though the cats don't necessarily agree with that statement. If we could just get her to stop eating cat poop, she'd be a great dog.

The furkids make sure Rick gets a Happy Pawpurr's Day card every Father's Day. He's a good pawpurr to them.

ETA: Your paragraph about Fido finding the right spot made me chuckle this morning. Last night when Rick and Jackie came in from the last "Pee Walk" of the night, Rick was telling Jackie that she had to pee quicker than that, that they weren't out for a leisurely stroll at 11:00 at night! She needed to pee and pee quickly! I think that if The Beast had her way, we'd be walking for an hour at a time. She loves to be outside and now that it's starting to warm up, it's taking her longer to find the right spot for a pee or poop. She'd rather explore. When we get really exasperated with her, we say, "Jackie! BUNK!" And she knows that it's time she poops!

He doesn't post on this site, but I believe my husband qualifies as a cat gentleman. I'm not sure who babies our cats more, me or him. His Facebook posts are full of pictures showing off our cats. He plays with them several hours every day (in fact the cats favor him at play time). He is always snuggling up with a cat.

Recently a coworker mentioned her cat had kittens. I picked one out and sent his picture to my husband asking if we could have him. I thought he'd be unhappy with yet another cat (we have 3), but he immediately said yes.

I haven't been lucky enough to find a cat-guy (not looking either, LOL) but I do know that there are several gentlemen on TCS who are as dedicated to their precious fur-babies as us women.

I think it's awesome when a man is a cat person. You always hear about the "crazy cat lady" but when I went to a cat show the other weekend, I realized that there are just as many "crazy cat men" out there too.

BTW - WELCOME TO TCS!!!!! You have found a wonderful cat community where cat lovers are always there to help day and night.

My DH was allergic to cats. We tried to have one many years ago before DD made her grand entrance. It didn't work out. His allergies were too bad. This was back in the early 90's. He was so upset when we had to bring her back to the shelter.

However when we first met, he told me he hated cats. I didn't  believe him and neither did any cat that crossed his path. Every time we went to someone's house and they had a cat, it was on him like a second skin. even cats that were not friendly towards strangers couldn't resist him. He was an animal lover to the core. We went down to the Florida Keys back in 2005. There are a ton of stray cats running around down there. We stopped for dinner and he took a bunch of leftovers with him. Mostly steak and grilled chicken. We were near the hotel so we were wandering around exploring and I look up to see a bunch of cats following him like he was the pied piper or something. I pointed him out and he laughed. Then he opened the box of leftovers, tore the meat up into little pieces and put the box on the ground for them. They were all over it. I just looked at him and said

"You know I never believed you when you said you hated cats".

He was raised to believe that men had dogs and women had cats.

That's so ridiculous. Men who love cats are the best.

My fiance is nuts about cats!

He's had many throughout his life.  He totally dotes on our two and they adore him.  He has a very special bond with our older boy in particular.  He says Casper is THE best cat he's ever had (with Cocoa a very close second).

I'm sure there are more out there than we're aware of, just probably less likely they group together like us women tend to do LOL.

Honeybee on my lap, music playing in background
My  boyfriend is also a cat and animal whisperer.

The first time he came to my tiny place all those years ago he wanted to see the kitten I had just adopted three weeks ago..he got down on the floor and layed down underneath the recliner talking to pumpkin face and petting her. It took her a few hours before she would come out but she let him pet her and he reported back to me that she was purring up a storm under the chair
So to see a tall man bunch himself underneath a chair to sooth a scared little kitten was enough to make my heart pitrpatter.

he doesnt go online and I have tried to get him to join facebook but he says I do plenty of talking for both of us

So yes there are men out there who like cats. As a matter of fact-that kitten that he got to come out of the chair all those years ago sleeps with him every night now. Sometimes under the covers. She is very docile and doesnt fight honeybee when she comes over to get her to play.

Whenever he sits down on the couch at least one of them comes running over for loves but he also gives them treats..one of them is a little buzzer who buzzes in the house to his lap for treats then scampers her fluffy tail back outside. He says thats how he keeps her coming back-feeds her-and umm she is getting tubby so I asked him to scale back and play with her-but nope..so at least he is gentle with them. Whenever I come home for work one of them is almost always curled up on his chest. Sleeping..and gets wide eyed when I open the front door. I try to be as quiet as possible but the door makes noises so sometimes she bolts out but comes back when she sees its me.other times she runs to the doorway to greet me. They all love him. And sometimes all three will sleep on the couch with him which leaves no room for mommy.

YAY! I'm not alone!!!

(Actually, I didn't doubt it for a second.)

Sadly, we seem to have created a societal structuring where men need to be "Strong Hunter...me get food...me take dog..." while women are immersed in romance novels and quilting and covered in cats...when the heck did this happen???

I love dogs. I really do. I had *THE* cutest mid-size Pomeranian/Border Collie cross on the entire planet - a rescue from when I lived in Alaska.

She was a wonderful companion to my Morgainne kitty, both of whom now wait beyond the Rainbow Bridge for me.

Oh, but "that" isn't a "real" dog, right? You have to have something BIG and STRONG! Mrrh!! Hunt with! Rrrnnhhh!!

So the collie/coyote mix when I was 4, the labrador/wolf mix when I was 7, and the husky/shepherd cross when I was 13 weren't enough?

Oh, by the way, I also had cats then...yeah...and in case anyone's wondering about cats being powerful, apparently they've never seen a tiger, lion, leopard, jaguar, or for that matter, even the tiny ocelot hunting prey...yeah, that.

Gah...I so hate stereotypes.

While I do love my doggies, I just prefer the company of cats. They seem to "fit" well with me living on a boat, being a writer and artist, and just lending their overall wonderful feline-inity to my life.

Welcome to the Cat Site! I used to have a cat that looked just like your tortie. I loved her to death. Both your cats are wonderful. There are lots of crazy cat gentlemen on the site, so you won't be alone. My two sons are both crazy about their cats. They have two each.

Sometime, you will have to tell us how cats like living on a boat.

I've also had my share of dogs from a Rottweiler down to the smallest little Chihuahua and all in between. I prefer cats and will always have cats. If I do decide to get another dog it will be a small one, possible another Chihuahua, they are so cute.

Stereotypes have always irritated me too.

I am a guy and a devoted cat lover!  I can't imagine what my life would be like without my three kitties to entertain and love me.  I volunteer at a (mainly cat) animal shelter and I feed ferals.  When I visit people, I am about as interested to see their cats as I am to see them!  All the people at the pet stores know me and my phone video of my cat begging.  Cats are the best!

Whenever we go over people's house he is all about checking out the animals. Horses. Pigs. Goats. Cats. Dogs. Chickens. You name it

And they love him too. Right now he has two out of three cats next to him. Old flo monster and pumpkin face zzzzzzz away
WOW you better hang on to him!!! I never found anyone like that and would love to.

But I've been alone so long and stuck in my ways so I'm better alone with my kitties and kids, LOL.

I have two guy friends that are totally the male equivalent of "crazy cat lady". Actually the one guy, most of his friends just call him "crazy cat lady" because 90% of his posts on FB are about his cat. I told him he needs to keep up that trend! The other one is about 80% of his posts. I think they'd prefer "crazy cat dudes" over "gentlemen" though, lol. Oh, and my brother is totally a crazy cat dude.

I think it's awesome seeing guys fawn over their cats as much as I do. And seeing a guy who is well known in the local punk seen not worry about losing his "punk cred" over this is REALLY cool. That's his baby and everyone knows it.

Edit: Oh yeah, @Zed Xyzed is another one!

My husband is a cat guy. He doesn't like most dogs...he thinks they're too loud and too needy. He adores our cat Mia.
