I picked up a new foster cat today. I was told she was ready to give birth any day. She saw vet this morning and was given amoxicillin for upper respiratory. She is congested, has green/yellow nasal discharge with a bit of blood. Her one eye is sore. She seems to be short of breath at times. She is eating very well and drinking.

Here's the concern. I don't feel any movement. She is really big. She feels pregnant. All I feel are bubbles. Lots of tiny bubbles just under her skin. I can hear alot of abdominal sounds, gurgling etc. But no movement and I took a long time, with her in different positions. (I've I have been fostering for 10 years) Another oddity is her nipples are really furry. They do not look like a pregnant cats. Vet says she is 2-4 and she was a stray.

Could it be a false pregnancy?? Or another medical cond? Vet thought he felt movement but wasn't sure. No one else has felt any.

Will the vet do an ultrasound or x-ray?

There was a thread that was just locked where the rescue said the cat was pregnant and it was an intestinal blockage.  They waited for a week expecting her to go into labor any day.  The rescue finally agreed to let her see the vet and she was pts.

There have been a couple of cats that had uterine infections and were thought to be pregnant.  One had been to a vet who said she had a couple weeks to go.

If with your experience you do not think she is pregnant please get her seen by a vet.  It could be an infection.

If you can get the cat in the bathroom, run a hot shower.  The steam will help clear the congestion for a while.

Thanks for your replies. :) If it was a bowel obstruction there is no way she would eating +++ and keeping it down. (I'm a nurse) She has both peed and pood but stool was loose. She seems happy and content except for her nasal congestion. She is actually in my spare bathrrom so I can try running a hot shower to increase the humidity in the room. She is on Amoxicillin so that should help.

If I convince them to do an xray/us I would have to pay for it myself. (I have done this before).

I am going to observe her closely for the next day or two. If the babies died, she would abort but not sure how long that would take. (for her body to reject them)

She has been under alot of stress lately with all the moving around.

Good news! Felt movement earlier today :) I went and bought a humidifier for the bathroom as her bed is in the shower lol. She had a coughing fit today, chokey and hoarse the poor thing. I wish the vet put her on stronger medication. He has her on 1/2 pill of Amoxicillin twice a day. ( the blue pills) I just don't think that's going to cut it. It was a vet filling in for the regular one :(

She decided she doesn't like wet food even though I tried a different one. But she is eating the kibble well and drinking. I think her nipples are still furry because she is too sick to be bothered to lick them!

Ugh..I really hope she is better before babes come.

Edited to add I put her on a lysine supplement too.
