Now the Rogue is lethargic, no appetite and bleeding from the corners of his mouth. The vet didn't find anything wrong inside his mouth, and as it is just the mouth corners and not the anus he isn't sure it is autoimmune. There is a slight elevation of temperature and slightly enlargement of lymph nodes, so he was definite that there was an infection going on. The Rogue also had trouble breathing (but no nasal discharge), but this cleared completely after an anti-inflammatory shot and anti-inflammatory drugs for two days. However, the bleeding got worse.

We will be back at the vet this afternoon.

The Rogue is on antibiotics for three days now. He drinks some water on his own but is not interested in any food. I try to get something down his throat several times a day (which is difficult because he gets bad diarrhea from most commercial foods, so baby food is out. I do my best with pureed raw meat and egg yolk, plus bone broth and pedialyte.)

I started him on 250 mg twice a day on lactoferrin, plus prunella self-heal, salmon oil and lysine since I noticed the lethargy a week ago, but did not notice any changes. I'm also giving him 250 mg cranberry extract on the chance it is calicivirus. Nothing helps.

Meanwhile, I'm at a loss and asking you lot for any ideas and advice, please.

What's his history?  I'm certain you have other threads about him, but could you outline it here for those folks who aren't familiar with him?  (and those of us who have terrible memories for all the different cats with different issues )

In the meantime, sending lots of vibes

Thanks for the vibes!

The Rogue is 3 years old, and up to a month ago his only issue was not tolerating cooked poultry. We dealt with that by having him eat a raw diet (mice, rats, pork, beef, whatever). He always loved his food.

He also couldn't be contained to the house but stayed mostly in the front or back yard. He loved wrangling with his playmates.

This year, I noticed him eating less than the year before, but he still begged whenever I was cutting meat and was the first to respond when treats were around.

A month ago, he got bitten in the hind leg during a fight, resulting in limping and a grossly swollen foot. The emergency vet could find some tiny puncture marks but nothing else and put him on a week's antibiotics plus painkillers.

A week ago, I noticed bloody corners on his mouth, lethargy and decreased appetite and suspected a virus. When he developed trouble breathing on Friday, we rushed to the vet who prescribed antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs which took care of the breathing problem. But since then the bleeding from his mouth got worse. So I'll leave work early and rush back to the vet today.

What did the Vet say?  This is very worrisome to me....I don't have any idea what it might be, but just your description sounds worrisome
.  And since he has access to the outdoors, who knows what he could have gotten into.

Hope everything is okay

The vet just called with lab results - he is moderately anemic (no wonder if he's been bleeding), and I'll go pick up a medication that should help rebuild red blood cells.  Also probably stomach lining is upset, and we got medication for that one as well. X-ray shows a full stomach despite him not eating much. She said to give some plain yogurt (can't hurt) and wait 3 days for antacids to work, if not there is medication for that as well. I asked about herbs like licorice but she didn't know anything about them... I've given him some marshmallow root and slippery elm since they can't hurt in his condition.

Her impression was that something is sitting in his stomach, causing a fullness and thereby no appetite (that's easily remedied, any cooked chicken gives him the runs).

Anyway there was no new bleeding since yesterday, and he ate a bit this morning. All in all pretty much inconclusive, waiting how he's doing in a few days and repeating x-rays...

update on the Rogue: (I don't dare to be too optimistic, but he is eating a bit on his own and there is no more bleeding that I can make out)

His medications are now clavamox, the antibiotic
thankfully in liquid form, famotidine against stomach acid and sucralfate against whatever ulcer was bleeding (they both don't apparently taste too bad and I can mix them in liquid), plus lixotinic to help with anemia (a horrendously expensive vitamin/mineral mix apparently usually given to horses. Well, as the Rogue is good-sized, I hope that helps.)

Additionally, I give slippery elm and marshmallow root plus digestive enzymes and pancreas extract (because I had them at home anyway).

Eating on his own is a good sign.  No obvious bleeding also a good sign.  Fingers crossed he continued to improve
