Hello,

I just joined this site as I got my first kitty, Dobby, 8.5 weeks old.

I got him 2 weeks ago and just after a week he got an eye and ear infection and a black spot on his nose two days ago.

I'm worried about him since all this just happened at once, is it normal or is something wrong?

I took him to the vet last week and he just gave me eye drops without anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Did he get the eye and ear infection at the same time?

Eye drops are proper for an eye infection.  For an Ear infection usually they give you ear drops to put in the ear.  Did the ear infection come on AFTER your vet visit?

Did you adopt Dobby from a Shelter, or where?  Did they give him a clean bill of health and give him his first set of vaccines?  You know these need to be followed up with a booster, right?  If he didn't get any vaccinations yet, you need to get them.  Of course, this is your decision, but I think even those of us who don't continue vaccinations on indoor cats once our cats are adults still think kittens need them.

Yeah he got the ear and eye infection at the same time and the vet was the one who told me he had it but he only gave me eye drops.

Dobby was from a friend of my brother's cat, and they just told me they took him to the vet once for check up and everything was fine and that I should take him for his vaccinations when he's 10 weeks old.

Did he possibly have ear mites?  Did he get a topical flea/mite treatment at the vet?

The most important thing is to keep him eating.  Little kittens can go downhill extremely fast, so if you notice any change in his appetite or if he's sleeping more than normal, get him back to the vet.

1 -Get vet insurance ASAP.

2-Make sure the eye infection goes away. Kittens can get kitty colds from their moms after they are weaned. Until then, they get antibodies to the virus in mom's milk. When weaned, these antibodies stop and the kittens get the cold. The cold can cause eye infections that can result in the loss of an eye. I watch a kitten cam of some foster kittens in the same city I live. One of their current 7 week old kittens just spent a week in the hospital with a kitty cold (over $2000) and now may lose his eye.

3-Call and ask the vet what you should do about the ear infection he diagnosed. Don't be afraid to switch vets if this one is not giving you the answers you need.

4- As the other poster suggested, make sure he is eating and drinking. If he loses his appetite (which can be very dangerous), offer him chicken baby food -comes in a jar (with nothing but water added). Measure how much you feed him so you know how much he is eating.

5-Purchase a good cat manual that explains feline nutrition and health.

I know from watching rescue kitten cams that the cold virus is very common in young kittens and it can also be very serious. Let us know what happens.
