Hi, my cat just turned two and is at a healthy 8 pounds within her ideal weight. She can eat SIX times what your kitten eats: 10-12 ounces a day of Nature's Variety Instinct venison/rabbit or homemade organic chicken thigh with u-stew.

10 ounces converts to about 283 grams. If your kitten eats a total of 50 grams the entire day, that converts to only 1.7 ounces of food a day. It seems like a very small amount of food for an 8 month old kitten, but maybe your kitten is unusually small?

My 6 weeks old kitten eats between 40 and 50 grams dry. Dunno if that's too much for his age? He is very active and full of energy, hunting and anbushing us all day. :)

6 week old kittens really should be able to eat as much as they want (so they say).  As you mentioned, he's very active, so needs a LOT of food.  Plus he's a growing boy

I don't feed my guys by grams or ounces.  I feed them by calories, because I have one guy who tends on the side of pudginess.  So if I'm feeding a lower calorie food for a specific meal, then he gets more, if a higher calorie food for the next meal, then he gets less.  So I just make sure they get their daily caloric needs met, including their freeze dried raw treats.

Yeah, we use free-feeding (used to do this with the previous cat as well without issues), filling his bowl in the morning and in the evening but add kibbles if we see his bowl near empty.  I heard/read that cats don't know how much is too much so I don't want to get him overweight. I use the recommended grams on the bag as a guideline but I am letting him have more if he wants.

He spends his energy now so I am not worried about his weight. My concern is when he will become grown cat, if he gets addicted to certain amount of food now it might be harder to limit his food intake.

Currently weights ~800grams, kinda scary for a 6 weeks old male (EU domestic)?

I have a six month old tabby kitten (Max) and he just weighed in at ten pounds! He seems very lean and muscular and like he is definitely going to grow more, but I feel like this is an unhealthy rate of growth for such a young kitten. He eats probably more than a cup of kitten food a day, but he scarfs it all down and is constantly begging for more. Thoughts?

They eat about half a cup of canned food each and slightly less than 1/2 cup of dry food each per day.

My girl is 11+ pounds, and overweight. She has been in a measured diet for years. She is 1/4 of a cup, about four ounces of dry food and 1.5 ounces of wet food a day.
