I recently adopted a beautiful little kitty from the animal shelter. She's 6 months old and on her papers it said exotic shorthair/mix but when I look up exotic shorthairs online she looks nothing like those short little cats so I'm kind of confused. Or does "exotic" mean something different? Does anyone have any guesses what part of breed she is? I'm still trying to decide on her name. I like the name Kookie (like cookie) or Trudi(pronounced true-Dee) but call her Tru for short. She's a very friendly cat and she is very relaxed, wasn't shy or timid when I brought her home the first day.

Hello, @TruKookie...and welcome to TCS. (the Cat Site.)

Your 6 month old cat is gorgeous!!  I like both the names that you are thinking about, and especially like "Tru"...(but only because I used to watch a t.v. show called "True Calling"...with Eliza Dushku...and so that name sticks with me. sorry I digress.)

As to your question about what type of breed, your beautiful cat is...I honestly would not know, but if you create another thread in this section of the Site, and post your photos there, then I'm sure the members who answer in that area, will offer suggestions. http://www.thecatsite.com/f/5809/describing-cats-what-does-my-cat-look-like

(the members, I am thinking of,  are mostly in europe, though, so may have to wait until they are online, to get an answer, to your questions.)

You can also read up on TCS blue Stickies, and Articles at the top of the different forum sections.

Just wanted to welcome you, and your "Trudi" or "Kookie".

(Maybe another thread asking which name members choose, would also help.)   That can be done right here, or here: http://www.thecatsite.com/f/5815/the-cats-meow

Names take me forever to choose, because I have to try it on the cat, and see what works.

Take care, and update when you have chosen a final name.

Thanks cat nap for the reply and info. It helps a lot. I'm glad you like both those names. I take forever to name my cats too. My family picks ordinary common names but I like to try to name them not so common names. Thanks again for the welcome!

She is a beautiful cat. I would guess that she was called "exotic" because of her unique color pattern. It's very unusual and simply gorgeous! Most spotted cats like that usually have two colors.

Sure, thing.  With names, I remember when I first joined, and one of the kind advisors mentioning that I should not take too, too long,...because the danger was that my cat would respond to any old name...such as "supper time"...."breakfast", "let's play" ...or any other repetitive words. That kind of made me laugh, but I don't think that would happen, since we were just 'testing' out names, and not just leaving them blank. I was not changing the name, daily, just trying out a few.

(Some cats have 2 names, anyhow, so you giving her a name, and then your family using another, ...should be okay, too.  Cats are very smart.)

Me, too. That is what I was thinking. I was thinking she is some sort of unique mixed domestic short hair, but would not know which. (I should hang out in that section, more often, but I fear I would forget the terms, anyhow.)

Oh yeah that makes sense. I was really confused with the term "exotic shorthair" because before, my cats were either domestic shorthair or longhair. So I was thinking they meant she had another breed in her, like half domestic shorthair and half whatever else. But that makes sense, because her coat pattern is very unique. That's probably what they meant by "exotic" on her adoption papers.

How many colours do you think she has?  Because her ears are seriously amazing, with those darker edges on the outside tips.

I also did not know that she has blue eyes. Quite stunning.

She reminds me of a cream coloured siamese...(but I'm sure that I'm just making that up, and it's not really a breed.) I am terrible at breeds.

Thanks! Well she has white, a cream coloring on top of her head, a slightly darker cream coloring spots on her body with hints of grey, dark brown ears and her tail is dark brown with hints of cream coloring here and there.
Ive never seen a cat quite like her with a similar patterned coat. Yeah she reminded me a bit like a Siamese because of her dark ears and lighter body coloring. Her eyes are pretty and like a light sky blue color. She is a really sweet cat & very good with my mini dachshund.

I seem to annoy my family a bit because they think I take too long to name my cats. I just try to find one I really like. Yeah, I kind of usually say the name alittle bit to see if it fits and if I like it. I also like the idea of giving them two names also. It's neat and that way everyone is satisfied. I use to have a cat named Judah but he past away last year and I was beyond sad because he was a very good cat & friend. So I wanted to wait a bit to get another cat. I'm not picky with whether I get a small kitten or a bigger adult cat. I just had to be careful with whichever cat I got, to make sure it was used to being around dogs because I have a mini dachshund I adopted and he's pretty small and 3 years ago when I adopted him and brought him into the home I made a mistake by introducing him to Judah my cat, way too soon & Judah never got used to him he was very territorial and if the dog got too close, Judah would claw at him. I'm very pleased & really happy with this kitty and she is perfect with my dog. I love that she isn't easily scared. On the day I brought her home she just laid down relaxing in the kennel, hardly made a sound.

she looks like a snowshoe to me. i have a snowshoe mix that looks very similar, her name is sasha. they are beautiful and very sweet, gentle, laid back cats.

snowshoes are part siamese which gives them their beautiful blue eyes.

Oh wow I think you may be right about that. I looked up the snowshoe breed and what their personalities are like & it seemed similar. Laid back, seems to lead, she has a quiet little meow. Not like the other cats. And she seems smarter in a way, then my other cats I used to own & more active, surely the fastest. It still amazes me to watch her run and jump high places without a pause between the two. She sleeps with me all night. My other cats wouldn't really stay sleeping on the bed, they would get up and go somewhere else but she isn't like that. She seems to like sleeping with me and she pretty much stays there the whole night. I wouldn't be surprised if she had some snowshoe in her. Especially seeing what they look like now and that our cats look very similar.

Your kitty is gorgeous. I think she is a mix of a seal point Siamese, and perhaps some Snowshoe, she has the most beautiful eyes, and I love her dark brown tail. Whatever she is a mix of, enjoy her.

Thank you! I feel blessed to have been able to adopt her. She had a brother that looked just like her but he was being adopted as I was looking at her & I knew that I really wanted her. When I first saw her I couldn't stop watching her because I never seen or had a cat that pretty & with that many of colors and I realized she had light blue eyes and I knew blue eyes are uncommon for the standard domestic American cats, because usually they turn a gold color as they grow up. So I knew she was unique and wondered what kind of cat she was. I now have some idea. (Siamese/snowshoe) She is a really friendly sweet cat & I don't want to leave the house hardly because I want to stay home with her! Lol

that's funny because sasha can jump higher than any cat i've ever seen and she really doesn't even meow. she only makes tiny little squeaks and chirps, never a real meow. she is very fast also and is fearless. everytime she jumps off the top of the refrigerator it freaks me out and i try to catch her because i'm afraid she is going to break a leg. from a sitting position she can easily jump 5 feet when i'm holding a toy up. she sleeps on my bed also, idk if she gets up though because i usually don't wake up but she's there every morning. she is very smart too and very affectionate to my other cats. she loves to groom the boys and make sure their ears are squeaky clean. and she loves to nap cuddled up with one of them. it sounds like they have alot in common!

they also have the same tails...

also, she her tan patches will probably get darker. sasha's were so light at 10 weeks--let me see if i can find a picture...

here you go:

her face and body are much much darker now..

Aww she is so cute! I can see the similarities in our cats. Her meow is hardly a meow and she's so quiet. So far I've only seen my cat run like crazy, she hasn't climbed too high yet like on top of the fridge, hopefully she wont. Although she does already jump on the counters. I ordered her a tree climbing perch thing so I'm hoping she will enjoy that. She can be so playful and the next minute be so relaxed and laid back. I also noticed she kind of has that same look in her eyes like your cat, when she's relaxed. My other cats never looked like that which is another thing that makes her unique. I will show you a picture of what I mean. So far I've mostly taken photos of when she's in a playful and alert mood but when she's relaxed she has the same kind of eyes. This picture isn't the best but she's relaxed in it comparing to the photos I shared above. (I know she is on the table I just couldn't say no, lol)

sasha loves being on the top perch of our cat tree so i bet your kitty will love her tree too. we had my granddaughter's 2nd birthday party at my house and the cat tree is in the living room where everyone was. all the other cats went downstairs away from all the commotion but sasha stayed up on her top perch just watching everyone. she was so quiet no one even knew she was there until i said something to her..
