I am new to this site but figured I would give it a try. My male cat "Angel" is a 6 1/2 yr old stray we took in when he was 2, he has had a couple of UTI"s but last Sunday we rushed him to the emergency vet, due to not urinating and crying in pain. They sedated him and flushed his bladder. I took him to my vet on Monday gave them all the info & paperwork from visit. They kept him for observation. Well he ended up staying and having a catheter put in for 2 days. I brought him home Thursday evening with his aftercare instructkons & meds. He seems to be ok but constantly in & out of litter box with only small amts of urine. I have been following him around & noticed sometimes he goes outside of the box. I have spoken to the vet a few times but feel like I am pestering them. Can someone give me some feed back as to what is normal? He is also on new food Royal Cain SO which he seems to like. I have been a wreck but he is my baby. Thanks for any feedback

Poor Angel!!!
As best I understand, he goes outside the box because urination is painful for him (he does not want to associate his bid with pain do he goes outside it) or because uriation was painful for him and he associates the box with pain now. Maybe try putting the box in a new location and or get him a new box, if possible, for a fresh start for him!
My girl was on Royal Canin SO after her inflamed bladder/crystals about a year and a half ago. It does the job in dissolving the crystals but does so over time. Meaning over a couple of days. Are you giving him the canned version? If not, check with your vet for some of the canned as canned food has more water and Angel needs the water to help flush out the crystals. Other thing to think about/try is to get a Feliway diffuser to help him be less stressed. Stress is thought to play a part in crystal formation (along with dietary factors)
Do NOT hesitate to call the vet, if you are not seeing improvement or no urine is coming out. He has pain medication, correct?
Keep an eye on him, keep up with his after care instructions and try to keep him a calm and comfy as you can. Things should begin to improve. Again, do not hesitate to seek medical assistantance if no improvement, no urine or frankly if you just need reassurance that he is ok!!
Hang in there. I'm so sorry to hear you are going thru this....I remember clear as day how traumatic it was when my girl went thru this. And bless you for taking Angel in and for caring for him thru this [emoji]10084[/emoji]️

Ty, he took his last dose of pain med tonight, he is also on a med for inflammation & spasms. He seems fine at time &then other times he goes under my bed(which he never did b/4) could it be that he just wants quietness? He is still peeing small amounts and using litter box alot.He has a follow up on Friday. I am just nervous because I hate seeing him this way.
