My cat jus entered motherhood and I need help. I kno nothing. She had her babies last night and her last one about a hour or so ago, I hope. she birthed 6 only 2 lived- is this normal?
Another question is when should I clean and change the bedding ?
Third and no where near final, is there anything I can do/should do? She seems very codependent on me for instance last night she wanted me to hold her as she birthed her kitten and would roll the still Born's towards me as if she was saying do something, she does very well with her two that are living and I have two toddlers myself so I'm trying to give her space from them any & all advice helps I never was around cats until this stray walks into my house and took over I love her so much and want her comfortabld

The babies need warm dry bedding. It can take a day or so for mom to get with the program, so she may need some help and redirecting until then. She sounds like she's doing very well though. As for the babies not surviving, I couldn't say. There are multiple reasons why that may have happened.

It's recommended that you weigh the babies to ensure they're gaining enough, with only 2 it should be okay. Sorry you lost the other babies. [emoji]128546[/emoji]

First, welcome to The Cat Site.  You will find lots of help and advice here.

To answer your immediate questions, NO, it is not normal that four of her 6 kittens either died or were born dead.  It IS normal for them to be clingy and 'codependent" when giving birth if they have been living with humans in the past.  It is also normal for a domesticated mama cat to want you to be near her and her babies.  It is good for the babies if they learn your smell immediately too.  As for changing the bedding, I usually don't do that for 24 hours because in nature, she would not move the kittens for at least that long. I do suggest using sheets instead of blankets or towels because the little ones' nails can get caught in the bedding.  If her current bedding is wet, you can put a dry sheet over it but leave it there for now because the smell is her smell and familiar to her.

One of our other Pregnant Cat & Kitten folks should be on here shortly to answer more questions that you have and give you guidance.  In the meantime, enjoy your new family.

We have a good collection of articles in the Cat Health section which you can access by scrolling up to the brown bar, clicking on Articles, and then choosing the Cat Health section and scrolling through the choices.  To make this super easy for you, I am copying the links regarding birth, delivery and newborns for you here.  I realize you are past the first four articles but may want to read them later.  Even though your girl has had her kittens, start with Help! My Cat is Having Kittens!  Then read about Post-Birth Complications in Cats
