I have a 6-year-old 10lbs cat who has been urinating in her sleep for the past 1.5 years. I have a camera set up in my room so I have confirmed that this is happening while she is sleeping.  This happens 99% of the time in my bed. This went from happening once a month to almost every day.

Samantha was diagnosed with IBD in November of 2014 through a colonoscopy.  When i brought her home she had a PEE smell to her I never smelt before.  Two days later she began the sleep peeing. At the time i thought one of the antibiotics or prednisone caused this.  However, the sleep peeing continued and  as of the past month it is getting worse and almost happening daily.  Her IBD has been under control with Natural Balance Canned Venison, a probiotic, and MiraLax for a little over a year.

My vet is amazing but doesn't know the cause of it. He believes she has bed wetting or some type of incontinence.   He has tested her urine 4-5 times, and has done blood work 3 times. Ruling out everything else I really am forced to believe that his has something to do with the colonoscopy.  The fact that this is now happening almost every day is concerning to me. Has anyone had experience with anything similar? She is a very active loving cat.  She looks healthy.  She was throwing up about a month ago and tonight I'm starting the process of switching her over to a new food just in case for some reason the problem is with the product I'm feeding her.  I don't want to take her to another vet before i can confirm someone can actually help. She pees in the cage, last week i brought her in and her paws were sweating.  I've never even heard of that. I need to know what the best thing i can do to help her is.  I feel extremely lost with all of this.

It does sound like she has some incontinence issues. Does she use her litter box to urinate properly when she is awake?

If you only noticed this after the colonoscopy, I too would be awfully suspicious that some type of nerve damage occurred with that.

Does she show any other neurologic issues such as low muscle tone in her rear limbs or tail? Low anal tone?

I would think a neurologist or internal medicine specialist might give you some better insight to her issue.

Immediately following the procedure she started doing a tail twitching gesture when she walks into a room. It almost looks like a muscle spasm. She becomes vocal and sticks her butt towards stuff. I was told this was fake spraying but this was not a behavior she had before.  Her back end does twitch sometimes but she likes to stick her but towards walls when entering a room..

She does use the litter box while she is awake no problem.

Hi Sam, so sorry to hear about your cat's condition. Breaks my heart that you haven't been able to find an answer. Our cat twitches her tail when she's very upset and stressed out. I'm not a doctor or vet, but it does sound too coincidental that your cat is doing this right after the colonoscopy.

Where are you located? I know of an wonderful cat-only vet in the Los Angeles area. If you're not in LA, try downloading an app called Kuddly. It lists specialized vets all over the country. You can search by location and their reviews/ratings. I've seen some great vets on there who aren't local but they're available for counseling via email/skype/phone for a nominal fee. Might be worth a shot to speak to someone highly qualified who may have experienced other patients with similar ailment.

I hope you find some answers soon. Speedy recovery to your little one.

She twitches her tail when i arrive home at the dishwasher or when she is entering a room. Could be typical cat stuff but all started at the same time.  We are located in Illinois. That app sounds great!  I'm willing to do anything at this point.  Thank you a ton.
