Lucy's kittens are constantly moving now, definitely "boiling!" She had some loose stool yesterday but that cleared up on its own. Today she's been pretty restless and her muscle spasms in response to the kittens' movements are much stronger. She's done a good bit of pacing and sniffing the floor, but isn't interested in any of the nesting boxes at this point. My foster mentor says kittens should be here today/tonight but agrees that Miss Lucy is going to keep me on my ties until the very end!!

Oh yeah, she also had some green booger-looking discharge, but only a very small amount

She probably won't go to the nesting area of her choice until it's time. But does sound like the next 24-48 hours could be busy! Keep us updated!

So Lucy still hasn't shown any sign of starting labor. She's been enjoying lots of cuddles on the bed, and the kittens are moving all the time! Here's hoping for some Easter babies!

Mama Lucy had her babies!!

Her labor started at 11:15 and by 12:30 we had three healthy babies.

Introducing Fawks, Fae, and Figg!

Fae, female, is on top: second born, weighing 117g

Figg is in the middle, male; last born, weighing 113g

Fawkes is the little ginger boy on the bottom! He was first to be born, weighing 94g

Happy Birthday babies!

Mama Lucy is extremely pleased with herself and is purring louder than I've ever heard!! All three babies have figured out how to nurse and are doing great. Mama Lucy seems to be all finished, but I'll be keeping watch just in case.

So Lucy did a great job on Monday, giving birth to three fat healthy babies. Fawkes, Fae, and Figg were born in just under an hour! Mama's milk took a little while to come in, but after about an hour and a half all the babies had fed and were napping comfortably with mama. The babies have gained some good weight in the few days since their birth! Fawkes is the biggest of the three, currently weighing 137g. Figg is next at 130g on the nose, and Fae is the smallest at 129g. I've got KMR on hand in case anybody needs some extra nutrition, but so far it seems like mama's got it under control!

Here's Miss Fae:

Mister Figg:

Mister Fawkes:

On Tuesday evening I got an email from the director of our Neonatal foster program asking if I could come pick up two orphaned newborns from our clinic. The babies were going to be arriving from out of town the next morning, and she wanted to see if Mama Lucy would adopt them in to her litter. Then on the drive down to pick the new babies up, I got another email stating that there were two MORE orphaned newborns that needed a mama as well! Four more babies total!!

Unfortunately the two original newborns didn't survive the long trip in to town; whomever was transporting them didn't supply them with any kind of heat source and didn't feed them for almost four hours. Both babies faded and passed within an hour of getting in to Austin.

The other two babies came from the local city animal shelter, and since they work with us all the time, they knew how to keep the babies warm and well until they could get to the clinic! The two new babies came home and mama Lucy picked them up and carried them straight into the nest!

The new babies are quite a bit smaller than Lucy's babies, but are already gaining weight and making themselves at home. They are going to be named Gaile and Gul.

Good Job Mama Lucy!!
