I feel so helpless.  My Bruno is so sick.  He just got over an Upper Respiratory Infection and I can't help but think that is what causing these issues he is having.  I don't really want to look on the internet too much because I don't want to read into anything.  Last Thursday morning he ate a little bit then slept all day.  He wasn't himself.  Friday he didn't eat nor seem interested in eating.  There have been times that he has done this before and was fine in a day.  Saturday morning, he felt warm to me and looked sick so I made an appointment.   They tested for Leukemia and FIV, negative.  They did a full CBC....white blood cells were elevated and his sugar was a little high. Stomach, breathing, heart...all good.  Fever 104.  They gave him fluids, B12 shot, took a urine sample, gave him some antacids and we were told to feed him sensitive stomach food, give him antibiotics (Obrax) and Metoclopramide and we would see them in 2 weeks.  The urine results would be in Monday or Tuesday...

We got the results from the urine sample.  Trace amounts of sugar ( he wasn't too concerned since this happens when they are sick)  Protein 3+ and they recommend to test the protein to creatinine ratio.  Bruno's lymph nodes in his neck are swollen and the doctor said to continue with the antibiotics and we will see him in 2 weeks for the recheck.  Since Bruno isn't really eating, we syringe feed a liquid meal, pedialyte and liquid meal mixed with a little wet food.  He ate one bite of turkey breast and one bite of tuna on his own, which was good...and the vet said to continue with what we are doing...watch him and if he gets worse bring him in...either way he would like us to call him on Friday with an update.  This gives the antibiotic a chance to be in his system fully.  He started them Saturday night.

He wants to see if it responds to the medicine but if it doesn't he wants to do an xray or scan or whatever checking his organs and lymph nodes, testing for possible lymphoma, pancreatitis and so on...    It makes my heart ache that I can't really help him.  It is like his fever is up and down, all he does is sleep.  He pees in the box but I don't see poo, which he hasn't eaten so that is no surprise.  I hate not knowing.  I hate the thought of it being something fatal.  He has never thrown up or had diarrhea.  I would imagine the lymph node is sore making him not want to open his mouth plus even if he is a little dehydrated it will make him feel unwell.. on top of whatever infection/inflammation is going on doesn't make him feel good...   ahhhh  i just want him well  :(

I'm so sorry your Bruno isn't feeling well; it's so scary when they are sick and we don't know what is wrong. Sending tons of healing and feel better vibes for him!!

Was bloodwork done? Do you mind if I ask why your vet prescribed the metoclopromide? Is he trying to use it as an appetite stimulant or does he suspect some sort of gut motility problem? Just curious.Do you think Bruno is nauseous? Lip licking, sniffing food and walking away? If so, an anti-nausea medication such as Ondansetron(Zofran) might help.

That must be terrible, I'm sorry to hear that. My cat had a year long fight with something in her face, 2 specialists and my old vet weren't able to figure it out, it was heartbreaking to watch and I thought I may have to put her down. Then a new vet did a check for nasal infection and it turned out to be a nasty bacterial infection that took another 4 months or so to battle but finally we got it. It was a hard year but I'm glad I didn't give up.

That said every case is different. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope somebody can figure out a way to help your Bruno

ruthm ruthm yes they did the complete CBC. Elevated white blood cells and sugar was a little high. He thought he was nauseous. I think he may be a little bit. He ate very little. Sort of smells the food walks away. Licks his lips. I know he still has little fever too And could use more fluids. He is laying by the water bowl now. I gave him some pedialyte hope that helps him

playerdark playerdark its horrible. He is just getting over an upper respiratory infection that I think has caused some sort of secondary inflammation. I hope at least something easily treated.

He is getting better a teeny bit everyday.  I can feel his neck lymph nodes swollen, one more than the other, which really isn't surprising considering his white blood cells were high and he was just fighting an upper respiratory infection.  The vet said to keep him on the the antibiotics, this is his 5th day and then to update him on Friday.  I hope there is nothing else going on in those nodes that medicine can't help.  We syringe feed and I just started putting a few finger tips full of high cal good the vet gave me in his mouth....  the fever was down yesterday which is a good thing.  I am using an ear thermometer and i take a healthy kitties temp to compare...  i know they aren't 100% accurate, but they are pretty close.   He pees in the box by himself and he has been coming the last couple of days for a bite of treats.   I hate when any of my babies get sick.

I hope he gets better soon
a pet fountain may help to get them to drink more but I guess with the fever and infection going on that incentive might not be enough to spark his interest in drinking more, probably the syringe stuff is best. I wish the best, hang in there

Has your cat gotten x-rays or CT to rule out that the respiratory infection spread to the lungs?

Sending
To your baby to get better! When mine get an infection it is almost a 3 to 4 week time of working it through with fluids and force feedings. Tuna and rotisserie chicken worked and baby food meat was the three things that helped the most..and rest.

thank you so much @foxxycat  !  He is getting clinic car liquid  7-10ML  about 5 times a day, some pedialyte, another 7-10ML of high cal wet food from the vet mixed with either water or liquid food about 5 times a day..  and then i finger in some of the high cal by itself.  He eats turkey and chicken on his own, just reaallllyy slowly and he drank a little bit of water on his own this morning.  He pees, i haven't seen poop but i think he did this morning a little bit.  he doesn't feel like he has lost any weight but i think the lymph nodes make it hurt to open his mouth.. i can't really tell..   I use an ear thermometer to check temp.. i know its not 100% but I check one of my other cats as a comparison.. he is always about a degree hotter but nowhere near like he was before...   I hate having sick babies

my vet called today to check on Bruno and since there has only been slight improvement, he would like us to continue with what we are doing.  If he gets worse at all, to bring him in.  If he continues to improve we will keep the check up appointment.   He wants to schedule an ultrasound because he feels there should have been more improvement and something else is going on.  That will be next week.  I hope my baby is ok!  he keeps burping too..

I wonder if antibiotics at this point would help? Azithromax has always been the best thing for secondary bacteria infection caused by the URI . Doxycycline is another broad spectrum one that I have used on my other cat. I noticed improvement in three days after starting these meds. I would ask the vet. The fever is indicative of infection as well as elevated white blood cells.

He was getting better very little every day, but he still didn't really eat on his own.  Saturday he actually got up to eat and smell the food so I opened his favorite and he took a few bites.. progress!  Then Sunday he came out from his sleeping place to be with all of us for a few minutes...more progress!  I gave him some tuna during the day on Sunday and he ate everything I put down.  We were still feeding him the liquid diet and some mashed up food and pedialyte.   He is very good about eating with the syringes.   By Monday he was even better.  Coming out more.  And his eyes looked better too, they looked more aware and open, if that makes sense.  He finished his Orbax Tuesday night.   Today he is back to his old self.  He has his vet appt Saturday morning so we will see what the Vet says about it all.    I think we would like to do blood work and urinalysis  to make sure everything is back to normal.. I'm not sure if he still will want to do the scan or not.  It took him a really long time to fight whatever this was.  And his lymph nodes were really swollen, they are back to normal.   I think maybe Azithromax should have been the antibiotic of choice instead of Orbax...  I read similar cases with other kitties and it kicked whatever infection they had going on..    I am just really glad that he is feeling better.

Oh that's good to hear, I hope all ends well for you. Maybe call your vet and see if you should get more antibiotic now and keep giving it to her, its always better to keep it up longer to prevent hidden germs from coming back resilliant!

I realized it's always good to have actual tests for bacterial infections because good labs also test what antibiotic they are sensitive to so you dont have to guess around.

Hope all goes well !
