Hello, my adorable kittens - just born on March 1 - are all scratching like mad around their ears.  There are no fleas or mites on momcat.  They are all still only on her milk.  Any thoughts?  May it have something to do with ear development? The kittens are a mix Birman and Himalaya with American Curl ears. Would appreciate any helpful feedback, wishing only the uppermost wellbeing for the little ones.

That is no typical behavior, if they dont have fleas nor mites. But may perhaps to do with the Curl mixed in?  Giving some peculiar extra tension in their ear tendons and muscles???  Dunno.

Had you tried to bathe them, and didnt flushed off the soap from the ears??  - ie they could get some soap on the ears.???

No, I have not tried bathing them - they are just 21 days old and well taken care of by momcat.

Yes, I had also already thought that it might have something to do with their ears - 2 of them are definitely curl back, one of them is a definite flop forward (as in Scottish fold) and one of them is normal.  But you never know how they might end up.  At any rate, I feel so sorry for the poor little darlings, they are obviously uncomfortable.

I would take the whole gang to the vet. Poor things must be uncomfortable. It sounds like there may be some sort of mite that isn't visible? Maybe an ear or yeast infection?

I would guess ear mites. They are hard to see, but cause scratching. I agree that a vet visit is in order.

I can't help but think fleas.

Not always so simple to spot, however look for tiny little black specs on the skin like pepper.

If you find any, place on a wet paper towel, it will turn red, that's what flea poop is, dried blood from the babies.

Are they stinkin adorable or what?! Wow, I'd be kissing and mauling all day!!
