I have been reviewing the estimate that my vet gave me for the claw/toe amputation she will be doing on my cat on Tuesday. My cat is having two claws/incompletely formed toes from between the extra toes on her front feet. These are the pain management meds that are listed:

Torbugesic injection

Metacam injection (I plan to ask for a substitution)

Buprenorphine

Is it really safe for her to be on three pain meds at the same time? It seems like a lot of drugs.

I have a high pain threshold so I've never taken powerful pain medication after surgery, but of course I want my cat in as little pain as possible. I've just never seen so many pain medications for one surgery. She didn't have any after her spay (done at a shelter) and she was totally fine.

When my cat was still in pain after desexing she got two pain meds.  One was the injection and the other was a liquid pain relief.

Metacam is an non-inflammatory as well as a pain relief that is designed to reduce pain in amputations.

Torbugesic injection this is an pain relief and also provides sedation. They might be giving this to her to reduce movement

I am not a vet. Your vet should be able to provide a better understanding.

I will definitely ask my vet when I see her before surgery on Tuesday. To me it just seemed like too much medication, but if they're using it at different times in the process (pain meds after surgery, before surgery, and during first hours of recovery) then that would make more sense.
