Should I replace his box, or just sterile it?

If u sterile it..

I usually replace the litter 1-2 week and clean with hot water and dish soap..

I would just sterilize it, use some diluted bleach in water with a scrub brush and wash all inside and out. Make sure you rinse it very well after the scrub, and if you have "messy" spots the soap is fine, but soap won't sterilize it or kill the "bad" germs. I had to do this for one of my sick fosters and she used it just the same afterwards. Best wishes and I hope your baby gets to feeling better soon!

This is what I do...once a month.  A little bleach and some water, then rinse well.  I let mine dry in the sun for a few hours and voila!  (I have a "substitute" box that I use while the one I am cleaning is drying, not to mention the other litter boxes around the house.  I only wash one at any given time.
