I would really like to do this however there's some issues. The mother is a stray and the cat just rolled up onto my friends farm all pregnant and stuff and had her kittens. they have lived on the back porch for about 2 months now. The cat has fleas and it doesn't sound like my friends family has taken the best care of them. I'm worried about flea infestation in my house as well as potential diseases that outdoor cats can have. They have not gotten any shots and are not on any kind of medication to prevent disease or fleas. This worries me because I don't want to get into a bad situation by getting attached to a kitten just to have to watch it die a few months in. Any tips? My mom said I'm crazy for even considering it and told me to just go to the humane society...but my friends kittens are SO cute it's hard to say no. I have bought everything a cat needs to live a happy life today and am ready to take one in but I'm unsure on these outdoor kittens. Thanks for any suggestions or information much appreciated. Can't wait to be a cat owner but want to do it right seeing how I'll own it 12-17 years.

Thanks again for any help tips or information.

When you pick up the kitten to take home, take it straight to the vet. He or she can give it medicine to get rid of the fleas. The kitten will probably be too young for vaccinations, but the vet can tell you at what age to bring the kitten in for that. You can easily socialize a kitten and you will have a friend for life.

Don't let your fears keep you from getting a kitten you love. The health problems can be taken care of.

I say go for it.  When you take them to the vet they'll test for diseases, give them vaccines, and you can request an anti-flea shot which is good for a year.  The short term will be a bit of hassle/effort but getting them young like that you can socialize and make them indoor cat(s) if you want.

Great this is helpful. It sounds like they are already fairly socialized. They get played with daily and will come and sit on lap.

Don't worry, just get the kitten to the vet before you take it home and they will take care of any fleas and advise you
