Snowy, one of my most favorite cats in the Colony was put to sleep last night.

She had been coughing for a few days, and it seemed as if she was trying to expel a hair- ball.

But, yesterday she wasn't doing well, and so at 9:00 p.m. last night I rushed her to the Vet.

After x-rays, the Vet found that both of her lungs were partially collapsed and fluid collecting around them.

She was 14 and a very scared little cat. It took a long time to gain her trust when she first turned up at the colony.

Eventually, she took up residence in the garage which is where I prepare all of the food dishes for the cats.

Snowy stayed outside during the day, as really, all of them do, even when they have "adopted" the house as their home.

But, at night, or when the weather is really bad they come inside and "Snowy" would come in when I called for her special time with me. She never groomed herself, and she was long-haired, so I would brush her a little (for as long as she would let me) before going to bed.

Whatever the cause of her lung collapse, it meant she would have to stay at the hospital for awhile to be in an oxygen tent and get antibiotic therapy. If that healed her she would have to have two shots daily for the rest of her life. With much conversation with the Vet and staff, we all concluded treatment would probably destroy the trust she had gained over the years. And there was no guarantee that the treatment would save her. She also had a heart murmur which added to her problems.

So, she was put to sleep.

She was sweet, dear, loving. Smart!  But, also fearsome at the Vet Hospital. She is the only one of the feral cats that actually bit a Vet assistant ahile ago. She was totally loved, though. I am missing her so much today.

I am hoping she had a speedy flight to Cat Heaven.

"Snowy" 13-14 Years Old. Named "Snowy" because I ran out of names for all black-colored cats.

She was beautiful, and I am so sorry for your loss. You did avery good job of taking care of her. She will be happy and well over the Rainbow Bridge.

I am so sorry for your loss.  Snowy was a pretty little black cat whom it looks like she grew into her name as the years have passed.  She had a sweet white, lion's mane on her at the end.  Very pretty girl.
