I took in two ferals, an adult and a kitten, about 7 months ago.  The kitten is now about 8 months old, and I just recently added a dog to my household.  She is a very calm, sweet, 7-year-old pit mix that had previously lived with a cat (which is why I adopted her).  The kitten seemed kind of glad to have the dog in the house...he was getting bored with just me and his cat brother.  But now, I have caught him walking up to the dog (sometimes when she is sleeping) and swiping her with his paw.  The dog does nothing to provoke this.  Sometimes the kitten has his claws out, sometimes he doesn't.  I am certain the dog will not react to the kitten, but I don't really like this behavior.  I've never had a cat before.  Is this normal?  Should I try to correct the kitten?  If so, how do I do that?  He doesn't really listen very well, lol.

He may be inviting the dog to play.   That's sometimes what they do with each other.  Be sure to keep his claws cut (there are lots of demo videos on YouTube on cutting a cat's claws) and then there is no chance of him hurting the dog.  They should work out their relationship just fine.  The dog is used to cats, and the kitten will get used to the dog.  They may end up playing tag with each other, I've seen that before with a dog and a kitten.
