This is what happens when I bring my husband up to the Humane Adoption Clinic and leave him with the puppies while I'm doing some work for their Grand Opening next weekend.

Meet Spike (black), brother of Sampson (blond). They both turned 12 weeks old on Thursday. Took them all of 30 seconds to start playing, they crawled into their kennel together, and are now sleeping in a pile together with Steve. I think they remember each other even though they have been apart for a month. They have the same basic mellow personality.

Steve sat there with Spike on his lap for about 2 hours. I came up to him and asked if he wanted to take him home. He asked me if I wanted to take him home. We both wanted 2 dogs, but was reluctant when we adopted Sam to take on 2 puppies at once. I guess we decided that we might as well get thru the problems of puppy raising all at once rather than start again in a year. I want to be able to use my nice wood furniture again sometime (it's in storage until puppy is thru chewing)!!

Am I ready for a straight jacket?

Congratulations! Spike is adorable!

Looks like Sampson loves having his picture taken and Spike is a little shy (or is he just ready to take a nap?)

Poor Spike was up all day at the adoption center, came into my house and just wanted to SLEEP. Sampson was at home sleeping all afternoon and saw his brother and wanted to PLAY. So yes, Spike was a sleepy boy and Sampson is a ham for the camera! We gotta get their body clocks in sync or this will be chaos! LOL

Oh, wow. I think it's great that you brought home Sampson's brother. Don't worry, they'll get in sync soon, and will have a lot of fun together. We did that once - got a puppy, and when we saw that his sister hadn't found a home a few weeks later, we took her, too. They were always very close. What do the cats make of the new dynamic duo?

Spike was the last puppy to be adopted, and yup, we couldn't see him sitting there all alone!

My cats are doing the kitty dance about all of this. Sampson no longer feels the need to play with them, as he is too busy with his brother. And Spike is totally indifferent to the cats, except when he is licking their heads. Since Sam is now 20 pounds, he was getting to be too much for the cats - he is definitely the more rowdy of the two (at least thus far). I have actually seen every cat in the house relax with our new addition!

And btw....Spike is as smart as his brother Sam. They sleep in piles together when they are not playing. We just missed a picture of the 2 of them gnawing on opposite ends of a chew toy today. They often just wander off into a kennel together, even though they both have their own, they prefer each other's company.

So.....just another few months to get thru potty training and another year(?) to get thru chewing.

How lovely!! They're both gorgeous. I'll admit to a soft spot for Spike, since I grew up with a black Lab (well, Lab/spaniel cross, but she was more Lab than anything!)

Nice news.
