My cat has been on antibiotics since 3/5 (she finished them yesterday, actually) for three decent sized wounds on/around her right ear. She was initially in an e-Collar but she ended up figuring out how to remove it after about a week or so (the wounds were VERY rough looking and infected). I don't blame her for removing them, but we couldn't keep it on her after that. She seemed to be healing fine.

She now has one wound under her ear (I assume from scratching) and a flap of something under the wound. Her ear and the area surrounding it is fur free. The flap is attached to the fur (or at least looks like it). I don't know if we should remove it with scissors or just let it dangle.

We are taking her back to the vet in a few days for a follow up. The other wounds have healed fairly well.

(Please ignore the clutter around her. I actually REALLY like this photo of her)

The white/gray blob near her neck is the flap.

I tried for another but she does not like being held.

I can't figure out how to edit my posts. Here's a closer shot of the first picture.

To me, this looks like a mat of fur, and considering she's long haired and been digging at it that's not something that would be odd. But for it to just come off like that is a little perplexing. Does it feel (I know it may be kinda gross to touch) spongy like a mat of hair or could it possibly have skin entangled in it? If it's all fur you could clip it right off with no problems. I hope it's nothing serious!
