It must be so hard just having to stand back and wait though.   I'd be like the worried mom to be's mom.

The change in position of the kittens sounds like something is starting to happen.

Yes, it is! I AM like the worried mom to be's mom. So excited too. Hoping we'll have kittens by Easter.

Your kitty looks so much like Minnie! The only difference is that Minnie has a white chest and white paws. She's very pretty! @Louann Jude

Minnie has had 6 kittens so far! She showed no sign whatsoever! I was sitting in the living room and heard a kitten cry. I went to investigate and found her under a bed with one kitten. Only 20 minutes prior, she was in the kitchen eating. It has taken nearly 3 hours to birth 4 kittens. I think there may be more to come. So far, we have 2 girls, 2 boys...not sure about the other 2 yet. Three of them are calico, one is

tabby like momma, and two black and white. Momma and babies are doing well at the moment

.

Make sure all 6 are nursing well. Watch for a runt or two, and put them to mom when the others are sleeping so they don't fall behind.

There doesn't appear to be a runt. They all appear very healthy. What I don't understand though, is she is in a box in a separate room where no one is, but she keeps moving them to unsafe places. Any suggestions on why and what I should do?

She may still want some more privacy. Where is she trying to move them? Is there a closet you could put them in?

She has tried to move them behind a large bookshelf, but she didn't quite have enough room. She also put them under a tanning bed and a bed. I have very small closets. They wouldn't provide her with much privacy or space.

It sounds like she wants to be more enclosed. Perhaps putting a box on its side and draping a sheet over it would make her feel more comfortable. Even though she's by herself she still feels exposed.

I moved her to a box I made for her with a t-shirt. I don't know if you know what I'm talking about. You take a cardboard box and slide a t-shirt over it with the neck of the shirt over the opening of the box. This makes it closed except for the small opening to enter and exit. She seems satisfied with it for now.

I am sorry not to have responded to the kitten arrival update before now but I have had a visitor here and not been on TCS at all.  I am so relieved mom and kittens all seem well.
I am glad you have found a way to help her feel secure too, with that covered box.

Do still keep a close watch on those kittens. Hopefully you are able to weigh each of them regularly to keep an eye on the weight gain for each of them.  Will Minnie let you near her babies?   While they are all a good size right now, and feeding well, they will each find a favourite nipple to suckle on and some will get more rich milk from their mom than others depending where they are positionned - that is one reason you can find kittens in a littler growing more quickly than others.

Hoping Minnie mom will continue to do as well as she has so far, and all kittens keep well.

Minnie is doing very well. She is a good mother. All kittens are doing very well. All are nursing well. She allows me to get them out and examine them
. She just watches me. Now that they are completely dry and clean, it is clear that we have 3 calico girls, one black and white boy, one gray and white boy, and one white and black tabby boy. I will be keeping one of the girls and have homes lined up for 2 other kittens. Minnie leaves them about 3 times a day to eat and use the litter box.

Such cute little kit's.
Good to hear Minnie is eating, and nursing well.  She is being very trusting of you with allowing you to touch them which is great for being able to check how they are going.

My cat gave birth on March 27th. The kittens are now 3 1/2 weeks old. Every time she tries to nurse them, she only nurses for maybe one minute and she seems to be in pain, so she gets up and leaves them. They are all gaining weight and appear to be very healthy. Should I start giving them wet food now to give mom some relief?
