I am really worried as this is very out of character for her and the weather has been very nasty. She has been gone for a few hours before but nothing that worried us. Other times she was just napping up in the closet and we didn't even know it after looking for her. Our house isn't very big and we've looked everywhere to no avail. Last I saw her wasFriday night at dinner time. I remember looking at the clock when I fed all our cats and it said 5:50 and all 6 of them were there. Then I opened a packet of treats around 6:15 and I can remember her coming in through the cat door  in the kitchen when she saw me handing them out to all of them, but then just running by because she isn't big on them and heading into the living room and probably out the front door, which was open. Once again, that is nothing new as we often leave it ajar so they can go in and out. That is the last I can remember seeing her. My husband got home at 6:45 and she really loves him and practically jumps up in his arms or in his lap every night when he gets home, but wasn't around. Something happened in that half hour between when I last saw her and when he got home. We didn't even really become concerned until about 10PM that night when we hadn't seen her for a while.

Like I said, it has been very nasty, with driving rain and wind all night so I can't imagine her wanting to be out in that. The sun is coming out now so I'm hoping she might show up. She has a collar and tags, but no microchip.

We are in a fairly quiet subdivision. Very low traffic...just mostly people who live in the neighborhood. We have a park about 2 blocks away and someone said they heard coyotes in the park. But our cats don't stray more than a couple of houses in any direction. Plus she must have disappeared just after 6pm so it wasn't extremely dark and I can't see anything getting her at that time. Nor can I see a coyote wandering up our street. She did disappear about a year ago for 24 hours but returned the following night. She is probably the most savvy of our cats and wouldn't let strangers get close to her and tends to dominate over our other cats so I can't see her being intimidated by anything.

I just can't see her getting into someone's garage because she is so skittish when we open or close our garage that she runs right out. Plus, it was rainy and windy and getting dark so I can't see anyone having their garage open. I just can't understand what would make her come in the pet door, run thru the kitchen and then out the front door and not return. If something was after her then she would just run in and run up the cat condo. She did that once when we found a possum on the porch. She loves my husband so not sure why she would leave.

I'm sorry you're going through this and hope she comes back? Is she spayed? If not, she may be out looking for a mate.

I'm really sorry about your kitty missing. If she is still missing, try checking your local animal shelter. Someone might have brought her in. Or if she continues to be missing, post some signs around your neighborhood and town. I hope this helps but I'm sure you already tried all of this. Hope you find her!

I would definitely post signs. I found one kitty that way. I'd take a car rides with the windows down calling for her driving slowly especially on the way back home in case she is lost. A couple lost got home that way at my house. I'd also place articles of clothing owned by the family out in the yard near the road, as well as keep food out. I hope she's back soon!!

I hope you have found your lost cat. If not you could try the info on www.missingpetpartnership.org when my new cat escaped out a window my husband had left open I used their advice and found her under my neighbours house (not sure how she squeezed in there). They suggested searching a five house radius which involves asking your neighbours if you can search their properties (dont rely on your neighbour conducting a thorough search on your behalf). Search all parts of their yards and sheds including small places that seem impossible to get into. On the site they mention that a lost cat will not meow because it would give up their location which is not what they want so even when calling she may not respond. The above advice from other members should also help. I hope you find her, keep us updated.

Three full days and still not home. Its nasty out again with wind and rain and I can't understand why she won't come home to her bed and toys or snuggle between us in bed like she always did. I heard from another person on this online neighborhood website from a neighborhood about 2 miles from mine where her cat went missing on Friday as well and just showed up at 3am this morning (Monday) on their doorstep but with fur missing and puncture wounds but OK. She though says she has seen coyotes on a nightly basis in their neighborhood. I am glad hers came back and it gives me hope that mine will too but it also makes me angry that she got hers back and I didn't.

I did put up 18 flyers around the neighborhood tonight but I have a feeling it won't do an ounce of good. I know how I am when I see those flyers up. I take a quick glance and then never think about it again. Plus we have so many cats roaming the neighborhood that nobody thinks twice that a cat is in their yard. Especially one with a collar.

I hope that you find her soon. I can't speak for anyone else, but if an unfamiliar animal was in my yard, I would try to find the owner.

I found my cat after she was lost for about a week. Put t-shirts with your scent inside her cat bed, ask Your neighbors if you can leave it in their yard. I put her toys all around my neighborhood along with the beds and articles of my clothing. I know this is a trick used mostly with dogs, but, it worked. I checked each bed/toy a few times a day, on the seventh day I found her sitting in her bed waiting for me:) try it. You never know. Good luck! It's heartbreaking when you lose a pet I hope you find her

I told my husband that I read online that dumping out the contents of your vacuum into your garden or front yard might help to bring her home due to the familiar scents. He kind of poo-pooed that because he said "She knows where we live, she's been here for 18 months, so that won't help." I agree that she knows where she lives but if she got really scared and ran out of her territory, would she know where home is?

It's driving me mad not knowing where she is! The weather has been horrible every day she's been gone so I don't know why she would choose to be out in it, if that is indeed where she is. What could be so terrible to keep her away from her warm bed and toys and food?? I realize that something could have gotten her, but she's just so darn smart that I can't see that happening. Plus she disappeared just as it was getting dark so I wouldn't think there'd be many predators out at that time. She was the one who would leap up into the closet while the other 3 snuggled on the bed, the one who would hop up on the fridge when nobody else would, the first and only one to actually leap up into our arms when we asked her to. She was always the first to stand out.

Have you contacted your local animal shelters yet to see if she's there?
No, but I've looked online at the latest photos of cats in the shelter and do not see her.  I just really don't think she'd be at a shelter. Like I said, there are so many cats in the neighborhood that I doubt people think twice about seeing one, much less trying to catch it and get it to a shelter.

I would check anyway. It's best to go in person to look over the cats there. Sometimes unscrupulous cat hating people actually trap cats that they know are owned and take them to the animal shelter.

That's why microchips are so advantageous. A cat thief can remove a collar but can't remove a microchip, so if a person traps a chipped cat and turns them into Animal Control, the chip will be scanned and they'll be sent home.

I would go door to door and personally hand fliers to my neighbors.  Also you could offer a reward as this might allow people to look closer.

Please check several times with the shelter, they get new shifts in all the time and don't keep up with the latest arrivals. I would go at least once in person too. Go on your local radio station on the 'swap shop' or the ' for sale or giveaway' portion and plea for her return, or ask them if they have a lost or found pet section, most do, and its all free. During our last bad weather my little spayed female who NEVER misses a meal ended up missing for a week, so don'e give up! I hate to say it but if there are coyotes around, that is very bad, but if she got taken there should be fur at least to look for.  My heart goes out to you, I'll pray for her safe return, please keep us posted!

Hi Mapper,

I had a similar situation this week where my boy has gone missing on Monday morning and it is now Friday and he showed up at 2:50AM this morning, wet, dirty and skinny as hell, My heart was shattered when he disappeared and I was so great full when I heard his little meow this morning!

but you know what I learned that they have natural instinct and will return home!

Don't give up hope! Keep believing she will come home and she will.

I know how sad it is to worry about your Fur kid, and your imagination might run away!

but as long as you don't give up on her...

I hope you find your baby soon

Thank you for your post. Was your cat an indoor or an indoor/outdoor cat? Tonight will make it one week she has been gone. It's hard for me to comprehend because if she was nearby, I would think she'd hear, smell and see her other 3 siblings running around outside. They came to us about 1 1/2 years ago at the age of about 2 months so have grown up together. Out of all of them, Skittles was the most independent and kind of a bully, but also very loving. She would pick on the smallest one, but since she's been gone, the smallest one has been around a lot more. She's more the aggressor than any of the others which is why it makes it hard for me to think something chased her away. I keep turning to a coyote got her, but I didn't see any evidence of blood or fur in the yard.
