My 10 month old Jonah weighs 14.6 pounds. He is a big cat already, and on a solid frame. This is not the droopy belly that a couple other of my five have, it is solid and evenly distributed weight. He does not act at all ill, eats, drinks, plays, very affectionate. I can feel his ribs, sort of.  I can't afford to take them to the vet on a whim, so I thought I'd ask what indicators to look for if he had some kind of health issue. I have been free feeding Meow Mix and providing wet food every evening. Should I stop free feeding? Thanks!

I think you definitely should stop free feeding.  That isn't so much because I am saying he is overweight, kitties grow at different weights and some breeds like the Maine Coone are just big cats, it's more about his age.  It's good to leave a little kibble out for young kittens to nibble on between meals because of their small stomachs and high nutritional needs.  A 10 month old kitten is past that stage.  I would switch to two meals a day.
