Hello, welcome to the weekend.

How lucky are you? Have you ever won anything or found anything? Or do you have lots of annoying bad luck?

I've never had any major wins or spectacular finds. I think I once won about $70 on a lottery ticket, but that's about it. I've lost things like keys, wallets and jewellery but never found anything to replace it with.

However, I've only ever had minor bad luck, so I guess I'm happy with that.

The only thing I ever won in my life was an apple pie contest where I used to work. I wasn't going to enter, but then Rick reminded me that he always liked my Apple Pecan Pie with Lemon Custard and it was a recipe that I pretty much made up on my own. So since I happened to be off work that day, I got up in the morning, made my pie and took it into work to be judged. There were around 50 pies to be judged. About two hours later, the guys came out of the office, gave me my completely empty pie plate and a $75 gift certificate to a local mall, which was the grand prize in the contest.

Generally we don't consider ourselves lucky people. I mean, we're the ones who went to Canada (to see AC/DC) and got into a car accident. Two months after we got the car fixed from that, we went to Pittsburgh (to see Mark Knopfler)....and got into a car accident. Neither accident was our fault, but that's the way it is. We've played the lottery, not often, and hardly won anything. Rick hits the casinos from time to time and comes away with nothing.

OTOH, we're able to get up in the morning and go to work, so we have jobs (and overall, I really do like my job, so that's good, too). We have relatively good health, we own our home with no mortgage, and we have no bills other than standard utilities. So, if you look at it that way, we're pretty lucky! I guess it depends on how you want to look at things.

Let's see.

I won a ballerina pin in a talent contest - don't remember my talent :p (I was a kid, this thrilled me)

I've found a few pieces of jewelry - nothing major but some were nice. Last one was a small. thin gold bracelet with bezel set colored stones in it.

I'm not much of a gambler; the most I've won was about $700.  Once it happened I left the casino. Bought my first real decent stereo system with it (I'm dating myself calling it a "stereo" LOL)

This week I learned I have a very unexpected inheritance coming to me.  It's fairly substantial in the grand scheme of things - will allow me to do some work on the house which I've been putting off (like a new front door).  None of my siblings were included so it puts me in a weird position of not being able to say anything about it.  I tell them everything so that's difficult.

I guess the photo of Cocoabean being good enough to be included in a book is some kind of "win".

Not much else I can think of.  I don't think I have bad or good luck.  I think it's just life.

I don't consider myself lucky.  But that means not only don't I have good luck, I generally don't have bad luck either.  And that's ok with me.

It seems that nobody lost his luck for me to find it. And even if somebody loses it, it won't be me who will find it.

As a result, whatever I have achieved in life, I had to work for it. But I feel better for that, even proud of it, knowing that whatever I got I have deserved it.

So funny this question came up today.

I was always the person that never won anything. Then in the last couple of months, I won three things! I won a raffle at a Valentine's event for a cat shelter last month. Then I won the badge for most reviews on here last month :D Then the other day, I won the cat scratcher on here!!!

I had said that it must be my lucky year, and inadvertently typed it as "Lucky" (with a capital "L") and I realized it was my little guy, who passed away four months ago today, letting me know he was still around. I know, it sounds crazy, but I don't think that my typing "Lucky" that day was an accident. He's become my little good luck charm :clover: :rbheart:

I'm all Irish and like to think I'm lucky.  I lose everything except weight
so I'm probably not really lucky at all.

Last year I had lots of bad luck. House problems. Truck broke. Water heater broke on a day where it was 5 degrees and I had to climb under my home to shut off the water in a pool of water. Lets see-Roof repairs that got screwed up. Broken skylight tried to hide but leaked bad. Paid a new person to rip it all off and redo it..so I have had it with bad luck for now. Oh a cat ate a toy and had to spend a day in er but we didnt get to have surgery-so i guess i was lucky there.

I used to find things all the time as a kid..not so much now. One summer I found $5 bill swimming at the town beach-I was a water girl (age 8-10?) and saw something weird out about 6 feet deep...money..then in my 20s I was leaving Goodwill where I worked and something flew by. I stomped my foot hard on it=a $20 bill. Nothing since then but I try to be grateful for my health, my job, my SO who loves the cats more than anyone I have met-he babysits them during the day while I work-hes retired..lucky bugger. So far my old truck is still going strong..so I will take my small successes. I thoroughly enjoy everyones life experiences that help broaden my horizon that without this klnowledge I would be pigeon holed in my own mind. We all know we never see ourselves the way others see us. Still working on this...so lucky I guess in small things...hopefully this year will not have anymore huge expenses as now I'm trying to work as much as I can to make up for it...so for now the universe can stop putting hexes on me!

I win things all the time. I just picked up a smoothie I won on my way home from shopping today. I've won a few casino jackpots, a $1400 bbq, a pvr and 6 months free satellite, gift cards, free valentines dinner from the grocery store, tickets to multiple events (some concerts, womens show, car show, medieval times tickets 3 times), $50 twice on bingo scratch tickets, a turkey, a dog bed...

I could go on and on. I am pretty lucky when it comes to contests.

I don't seem to be particularly lucky--for good or bad.  I guess that's a good thing, in itself.

I've won a few things, like an apple pie baking contest (with a set of themed pot holders for the prize), but I see that as more skill than luck.

I suppose the one thing that I am lucky about would be my present house.  I live in the house that was my grandparents' when they were alive.  After my grandfather died, they didn't sell the house, they rented it until my marriage broke up, and then re-jiggered the inheritance so that the house came to me.  I now own the house and all I have to pay is taxes and insurance.  Since my ex doesn't really pay child support (he paid nothing at all, then went on disability--my children who are still minors are now getting money from SS disability, but my ex didn't really have a choice about that, since they were already linked to his SS number from the tax returns filed during our marriage), I am able to make ends meet because of the house situation.

Never won a thing.  But I have good "every day" luck.  I have what I need when I need it.  Not a lot of extra, but the basics are always there.

This is the perfect thread for me to tell the story of the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me, which would have to definitely go in the "good luck" category.

When I lived in San Francisco, I was waiting at the train station one day to go to work in San Jose. I was at a different station than the one I usually went to as I was seeing if it was a faster trip from my house. I was sitting there not paying attention to anything, reading or playing a game on my phone or something. Some guy walked briskly passed me and threw something in my lap. My thought process went like this. "What the crap? Did that guy just throw something at me? How rude." *glances at guy, sees average-height guy in baseball cap walking briskly away, looks down again* "Is this MONEY? THIS IS A LOT OF MONEY."

It was $1000 in $20 bills in a rubber band.

I have absolutely no explanation for this occurrence.

I've won/found plenty of other things, but nothing comes close to Craziest Thing That Ever Happened to Me.

Wow!! Talk about luck! Maybe they were randomly picking people to give away their money so they dont have to pay their relatives if they die. At least I think about this all the time..if I knew it was my time..I would give away everything I own.

That's a good hypothesis for me to add to my arsenal of random speculation about the event. I had previously speculated someone who was about to die of a terrible illness was giving away their possessions (similar to your idea) or someone was supposed to do an anonymous drop off for a drug deal or other shady business and was told the contact was a blue haired girl with bright purple flower tights (I remember the tights I was wearing that day because of the weirdness) and I accidentally coincidentally fit this seemingly-unique description.

this is a very interesting question for me!
i don't usually think of things as lucky or unlucky, but more as things i don't mind dealing with/good things happening vs things i would prefer not to deal with that come up. contests and drawings and similar, i view as random chances type things -- i don't enter particularly often, and so don't have much chance of winning.

i firmly believe that i make my own luck, good or bad. i guess i'm pretty 'grounded' that way. on the other hand, i do believe in karma or 'the universe righting itself' -- believing that is comforting to me. so maybe i'm an unusual mix in this way...

I call things only lucky or unlucky in retrospect. If I say it was "lucky" I don't mean a force beyond random chance caused it, only that the random chance happened to be good for the person I'm calling lucky.

Yes, I have won lots of things. I never thought it was luck though. I don't believe in luck or coincidence. I call it "blessings."
