I'm going to the store tomorrow to buy cans for my kitten I'm getting next week.
She'll be 10 weeks old.
A lot of the cans feeding instructions don't give a specific amount to feed a kitten daily so I'm not sure how much will last a week.
If I'm leaving dry food out for free feeding during the afternoon while I'm gone, is a 5.5oz can a day usually a good amount? Or would she need more or less?

The general rule is to feed growing kittens as much as they will eat
Kittens need a lot of food for their rapidly growing bodies so they really can't overeat or get too fat. There isn't a set amount of food you should be feeding. Some kittens may eat as much as 6 oz or more a day while others don't. Kittens have small tummies so a few small meals daily is best. You can start with a 5.5 oz can split into a few small meals adjust from there. If you plan to feed some dry, measure a set amount instead of free feeding. 1 cup should be plenty for snacking on if you are also feeding canned food.

As you know, growing kittens need more protein than adult cats, and wet food is richer in protein than dry food. They also need more meals per day than adult cats; I’d say 2 for adults, (at least) 3 for kittens.

As for how much to give them, can instructions would only be a starting point. In practice, you’ll have to watch what’s happening with their weight and adjust accordingly. Don’t let them get too fat, it’s bad for their health.
