I finally got another wight on all 4 kittens! It has been a week since I weighed them last and one little guy is even his first weight.

Spot: 1 day: 143g, 8 days: 279g, Total gain: 136g (19.4 g/ day)
Tortie: 1 day: 137g, 8 days: 255g, Total gain: 118g (16.8 g/ day)
Ginger (white hind legs): 1 day: 144g, 8 days: 290g, Total gain: 146g (20.8 g/ day)
Ginger: 8 days: 283g (This was his fist weigh in)

All the kittens have either doubled or just about doubled their birth weight. Am I totally in the clear or should I keep trying to get them on the scale? And how often if I should?
Sophie doesn't like it too much and I had to use the distraction of kmr for to let me get them all...

I would still weigh them.  Losing or not gaining is an indication of illness or someone might just need some extra.

Sophie and kitties are doing well :)

One baby though is a whiner! He wakes up every 30 min or so and just cries. Sophie feeds him and he quiets down for the feeding. Then after while she's cleaning him he cries. He settles down once she's done cleaning him and falls asleep for about 30 min and the whole process starts again.

The other kittens aren't like this! They eat every couple of hrs and hardly complain.

I wonder if everything is okay with him and he's just a whiny baby or if this could be a symptom of something more?

How long does he feed for? I'm wondering if he's not getting enough milk. The main reason kittens cry is hunger. Perhaps he needs supplementing. He should sleep more than 30 minutes at a time. How's his weight compared to his siblings? I'm guessing he's hungry! If his belly is full he should be able to go for a couple of hours.

Try supplementing him with KMR and see if it helps.

I can't weight the kittens everyday because sophie wont let me. Also, when I tried weighing them tonight, they were so squirmy that I couldn't her a solid weight (any tips would be appreciated). But Im fairly confidant this guy weighs 350 g tonight. The last time I weighed him was on the 3rd and he was 279 g. So it's been 5 days and he's gained 71 g. That averages out to about 14 g a day. That's pretty on par for his gain thus far.

Based on his weight, he shouldn't be hungry. He latches for a few minutes and then starts to cry again when Sophie is cleaning him until he falls asleep. I check them regularly to make sure they're warm enough and they have a constant heat source in their box as well.

I just fussed with all the kittens to try and get weights so they were all up and ready to eat when I was done with them. All 4 babies latched and 3 are still eating but the spotted one (cry baby) has unlatched and gone to sleep. So maybe hes not getting as much as the others in a single feeding. Or it could be that he just had a snack and wasn't as hungry.

Another question I had...I noticed that she doesn't stimulate them after every feeding. She does stimulate them sometime, as I've seen her do it. But sometimes they all just fall asleep after a feeding and she doesn't stimulate them.

Is this okay? Or is it imperative that they be stimulated after every single feeding?

I would assume she's taking care of them in terms of cleaning.  You're not with them all the time, so it's hard to say.

For the weighing, put a bowl on the scale and tare it.  Then you just plop the kitten in a bowl and it's really quick.  Try to get weights.  You can do it right in front of Sophie.

Sophie litterally grabs the kittens out of my hand as im putting them on the scale and takes them back into the box. I do it right in front of the box and show her the scale every time and show her what I'm doing but she still wont have any of it.

I'm also nervous about how I could possibly try to supplement this little guy. She just won't let me handle them at all!

She doesn't get aggressive thankfully but she makes it very clear that they belong with her now and have no reason to leave the box.

Sometimes you have to take the kittens out of the room one by one to weigh and/or supplement. If mom can't hear them she'll be less panicked.

Is it better to take them out of the room or take her out of the room? I feel like it would go quicker for weighing if I took her out. For supplementing, I understand taking the kitten out.

You'll have to feel it out, I think. Mom may really resent you for being removed from her kittens, while she may be distracted by others if you move only one at a time.

I'll try tonight to take them out (one by one) for weighing and see how it goes.
I hope she doesn't hate me forever for taking her babies away from her :(

You might want to just get a weight on the kitten you are concerned about for now so we can know if he's getting enough milk or not. You said the others seem to nurse and sleep longer and do not cry.

That's a good idea. It will stress her out less oif i I just take one and not all 4 one after the other.

And yes, the other kittens eat and sleep. They don't every cry when they wake up. They just go to momma and have their fill and pass out again.

Sometimes they tumble around for a few minutes before falling asleep. But no complaining.

I'll take out the one in question later tonight. Last night I weighed him at like 11 pm so I want to get close to that time today as well.

If he hasn't gained around 10 g, should I immediately supplement?
