Keep her in your room!! She is panicking because she's in pain and doesn't know what's happening to her body. Once she is really in labor she'll be happy to have a safe place.
Thank you so much for the quick response! I will keep her in here like I was planning.
Is there any way I can make her nesting boxes more appealing? She's trying to dig into my bed, the floor, a suitcase.

Sophie has FINALLY settled down!

She is now listening to my art playlist and contently grooming herself.

I also think the contractions are getting more intense because a leg shake has joined the quivering tail during them.

Oh and she has started quietly crying randomly. Saddest thing ever :'(

Never a dull moment!

Slight fiasco when my guests arrived. I got them in and settled and went back in to sophie but when I opened the door she bolted out. It takes nothing more than the surprise of a dog and a baby being there to have her on top of the kitchen cabinets. About 10 min and a lot of coaxing and I got her bank into my room where I am with her now.

And here is the face of a once again calm but in pain momma to be.

How do I know that thngs are progressing normally?

She is not licking her lady bits a lot yet but she is grooming quite a bit. She nibbled on her food today. Took maybe 5 bites. She hasn't lost her mucus plug that I can tell (she could have lost it earlier and I just didn't notice) and her water hasn't broken.

Is this normal for 12+ hrs in stage 1?

Well I asked and I was answered.

She keeps going from nest to nest squating and crying...I guess trying to pick out the best one.

Of course she is in none of them and instead in a suitcase.

Do you think Sophie will hold off having the kits if I'm not with her?

I left for about an hr to make lunch, shower, and her dinner ready and every time I checked in her she was on my pillows just lying there.

I feel bad leaving her all alone but I will have to get my kids from school soon and make dinner and be with them. And tonight is a holiday so we have to be in synagauge for like an hr. Basically from 4-8 pm I won't be able to attend to her.

She will cope. If indeed it is stage one labor, it can easily last 24 hours. Cats can stop and start labor too. Just do what you need to do. You must be exhausted!

I am beyond exhausted! But thankfully I have off of work tomorrow due to the holiday.

I just really don't want another sleepless night. I'd rather her just get over with it already and have a safe labor and healthy kittens so I can breathe.

I hear you! You'll need to just insist on sleep for yourself tonight. If she needs you she will wake you. She will cope one way or another, and you'll be in the room with her. You have to look after your own health or you are no good to anyone.

Still no kitties...

Sophie is acting almost normal again today. She is eating (less than usual) and sleeping and that's about it.

She woke me up a few times in the night (wanting loving) but I let her know that now is sleep time and got a full nights sleep.

She has also calmed down about the dog so I let her out of my room and she is fine. She is glued to my hip but not out of fear out anything.

I wonder if she's delaying things until they leave or if she was having false labor/braxton hicks. I guess well find out tonight when they leave.

It's hard to say not knowing exactly how far along she is. Especially if you just recently began noticing movement, but it could be a small litter. Only time will tell.

Well Sophie is still preggers...

Things have been absolutely crazy since last week and today is finally the first day that there is calm again.

Sophie has decided that I should hold her in my hands cradled like a baby today lol. Other than that everything is still status quo.

She also has been on a bee line for the front door today. She hasn't been very interested in getting out for a while now but today she wants nothing more than to be outside.
It doesn't make sense to me...it's cold and raining today. Why would she want to be in that weather?

Cats who are very close to delivering sometimes do try to escape. She is panicking and wants to nest outside. It's obviously extremely important that she not get out. I would warn everyone in your house that you have an escape artist!

She is very begrudgingly staying indoors! And I think I'm going to start closing her in my room when I go to pick the kids up from school because they are generally less careful about the door.

What's can I do to make her feel more comfortable about having them here? This has been her house from the time she was 6 weeks old.

She'll settle in once she is in labor and delivery. She just feels strange and hormonal right now. It's not a reflection on you and your home at all.

It's just her instincts. This is her first litter, I believe? She'll calm down. It's a good idea to maybe keep her and everything she needs in one room where she'll have peace and quiet. Perhaps she's just feeling a bit more uncomfortable today.

Yes, it is her first (and last) litter.

She is certainly hormonal! She has hissed at me a number of times over the past few days (first time ever) and almost viciously tried to steal a hamburger out of my hands.

I hope she has them soon! My kids are taking bets on when they come. My big guy says before his surgery (April 5) and his brother says after. I guess well find out in a week (or sooner) who wins.
