I am in some desperate need of help for my kitty. About 6-7 years ago, my indoor cat got out, got bit on his neck which turned into an abscess. After the wound was healing he started scratching and tearing it open. After desperation I discovered cutting the end off a tube sock and sliding it around his neck would help protect it from him really tearing it open. This was only after several vet visits, hydrocortisone shots, antibiotics, change diet... Nothing has worked. He has been living with this eve since. I have to change his socks regularly because he always finds a way to get underneath there and claw himself open. I bought the little toenail sheaths, he rips them off. Now he has started scratching the side of his face and ear, and little tries to rip off his toenails. I feel so hopeless. We love him so much. We've had him for 12 years and half his life he has been suffering. I've tried cat pheromones... You name it. I'm hoping there might be just one miracle that someone may know of that will help him aside from having to put him to sleep, so he's just not suffering anymore. We are all so sad. Thanks so much.

Good morning and welcome to TCS. I'm sorry you had to join us under sad circumstances.

I've asked a mod to please move your post from here to either Cat Health or Cat Behavior. Once they move it, they'll contact you to let you know where you can find your thread. I think you'll get much better responses there than here. This area is for site help, if people have a people moving around on TCS itself or have a problem posting pictures.

I wish you all the best with your kitty.

Since this has moved to the side of his face, ears, and toenails I am wondering if there is a fungal infection going on.  I haven't dealt with fungal infections but I have read here that it doesn't often attack the toes around the claws.  Has your kitty had a scraping done to check for what could be going on.

I just stumbled upon this post, looking for something completely different in Google search. One of my cats had something like that years ago. The entire back of his neck was was tore up. It looked horrible. Nothing worked and it just kept getting worse. One day, the dog that grew up with the cat started licking it. He did it whenever he was near the cat, which many times times a day. In a matter of days the entire thing was cleared up. I guess it was something in the dogs saliva.
