So my cat gave birth today, and 2 of the 3 kittens are doing really well, however the last one looks like one of it's legs are missing. Not only this, but she has deliberately separated that kitten from the other two. What should I do??? I can't go to the vets until Friday at least...

Aww, poor little punkin!!

Mom sees baby as a weak link and wants to abandon it.

This means this baby will die very fast unless it is taken away and cared for on it's own.

If you are willing to do this let me know and I will walk you through it.

If not, are you able to look for a cat rescue that will take and care for it?

Caring for the baby will be very time consuming, because it needs to be fed every 2 hours around the clock for the first 10 days or so, then every 3 hours for another week, then every 4.

You will need a heat source and will be pottying as well.

Just so you know what you will need to be committing to.

3 legged kitties do just fine indoors only, so this is not a reason for it not to be able to live.

But mom is not going to care for it, plus if you don't take it from her now, not only does she want it away from her and her litter but may even feel desperate and kill/eat it.

Sorry, I know that was blunt but it's true.

If you are planning to remove the baby but unable to care for him, can you contact a rescue to take him?

There is no reason he should not be allowed to live.

Oh yes, Friday the baby will have died long before then.

Newborns have no reserves at all, and must eat/nurse every 2 hours, after that they have nothing left to process and will go in to starvation mode.

I'm happy to do the foot work for you if needed, if you tell me your location.

Yes, if you are unable/willing to completely bottle feed this baby, you need to contact a rescue group ASAP.

Where are you located? You can send either catwoman707 catwoman707 or myself a PM if you do not feel comfortable posting your location in this thread.

Please do not just allow this baby to starve to death. It is cruel, and this baby is very much able to live.

Please also consider having your cat spayed when the kittens are 8 weeks old. They can get pregnant again within a week of delivery and multiple pregnancies and/or heat cycles are not healthy.

Please let one of us know your city, we will locate a rescue for you.

It has now been 2 hours since this thread started, if this baby is off on it's own it is far too cold now, and is in starvation mode.

We all know too well how crazy time consuming it is to care for, and it's fine to allow a rescue to take him, his pic shows he is developed fine despite the leg and can live a good life.

But not going to happen unless it has help/food right away.

No worries guys... the kitten is fine and it was feeding from its mother earlier today. It's been 12 hours since they were born and they all seem ok :D

Thank you for letting us know, I would surely keep a close eye on things though until then, just in case, as it's normal for a mom to put an imperfect baby out.

Hoping for the best!
