Holly, six years and Autumn, ten months get mostly meat flavored canned food. I did pick up a bunch of cans of fish flavored (salmon and ocean whitefish) which they both love. They only get it about twice a week. The problem is that Autumn is now preferring the fish. She otherwise doesn't eat enough. I tried putting about a teaspoon full of fish flavored in with meat to attract her to it. I know too much tuna is bad for cats, which is why I got the other two but how often can I give them the others?

Mine prefer fish also. I'm making the transition from 2-3 times a week, to once every 10 days or so. It's working with good variety.

Raw fish and tuna meant for humans aren’t good for cats because they lack thiamine. They are only allowed as an occasional treat. Fish is also responsible for a large percentage of food allergies in cats

But commercially prepared foods that contained fish are enriched with thiamine in appropriate amounts and are much better.

As long as the cat is not allergic to fish and it is included as part of a nutritionally complete diet, fish is a good source of protein.

In conclusion, I’d advise that if you want to feed a fish-based food as a treat, it's wise to limit it to once or twice a week.
