Dear All,
I'm really hoping someone out there has had some (positive) experience treating feline 'stomatitis' that can help me take care of Thomas, my cat.
Poor Thomas had all his teeth except for his canines removed about 6 months ago. His gums were in terrible shape at age 9 and the teeth had to be pulled. Even now his gums are still inflamed and the Dr. has diagnosed him with Stomatitis.
We tried antibiotic pills (bitter to the taste) but he wouldn't eat the 'tainted' food. So we went back and gave him an antibiotic injection. So far he's shown a little improvement but is still bothered. He is taking Prednisolone every other day and Miralax (for digestion issues) daily.
Yesterday the Dr. gave me Atopica solution to give him for a month. While researching Atopica (generic Cyclosporine) I discovered a very scary list of side effects and now I'm having second thoughts about keeping him on this 'dangerous' (?) medication.
Has anyone else ever had subscribed to/used to treat Stomatitis? Most of the literature I've seen says Cyclosporine is used for allergy relief. Is Stomatitis an allergic reaction?
Many thanks for experienced advice,
Barbara & Thomas
