Help, please! I need some advice/reassurance here.

My male cat, Sunny, is 11 months old. Two days ago, I noticed he was visiting the litter box very frequently, like every half hour. The spots he left in the box were very small. I knew this was an issue so we went to the emergency vet since it was a weekend.

After some tests the emergency vet said it was probably not an infection and he was not fully blocked. She prescribed pain meds and an anti-inflammatory and sent us home with suggestions of switching food. All seemed to be well until a few hours ago.

A few hours ago I noticed he urinated just fine, but then hopped back in, unproductively, just after. I didn't like the looks of that, so we went back to our normal vet a couple hours ago.

He said that the bladder was empty, but prescribed an antibiotic as well as urinary care food. Sunny can urinate, but he feels like he always needs to.

We got home about an hour ago, and my poor baby has barely left the box. He keeps trying to go, and it's breaking my heart.

What more can I do? Is it just a matter of waiting for the antibiotic to kick in? I'm in tears for my little guy.

Any advice - anything at all would help. I've read a lot on these forums, but never posted until now. Sorry for the novel. I just want to be a good kitty mom.

My cat had a blockage and for the month after that I kept going back and forth to the vet because of my cats frequent visits to the litterbox I was so afraid he was blocked and visit after visit I was told no his bladder is empty he is fine. The vet explained that the opening to the bladder was inflamed and that's why only a little urine goes through. For your baby As long as there is some pee coming out there's no danger but it still hurts him to pee and he still has that urgency because of the inflammation. Do you have any pain meds left? How long has he been on the anti inflammatory medicine?

He's been on pain meds and the anti-inflammatory for 48 hours. We have one day left of each. First dose of antibiotics was an hour and a half ago. We have ten days of that.

If his Urine was tested and it wasnt an infection the antibiotics may not help. But they may. Just watch to make sure he is peeing at least some. hopefully by Wednesday he will be better. I'd give him one more day.

I think my vet suspected the emergency vet may have missed an infection or that one may have just gotten started.

Sunny is still playing with his brother, Shady. He ate a very good supper of prescription urinary care canned food (with some extra water sprinkled on). He acts just fine except for his every 15 minute box visits. Some visits are completely unproductive, some yield a small amount.

I hope I'm doing everything I can be right now. I just know that he's got to be miserable - even with pain meds - and I wish I knew when it would get better. I'm so worried about him!

If his urethra is inflamed, it feels like he has to go all the time. Been there myself. The antibiotics should help, as well as the pain meds.

Sunny seems to be doing better today...and so am I! He's no longer constantly trying to use his box. Instead, he's going every few hours. The amounts are on the smaller side, but still much better than last night. He's playing and acting normally as he has all along!

He's eating Science Diet prescription canned food from the vet very well, but has no interest in the dry prescription food the vet sent. From what I'm reading, I see that canned may be best from here on out anyway.

My vet wants him on urinary care prescription food for the next several weeks. After that, he said we could transition to something like iams urinary care, or just stick with the prescription food for good. The prescription food is pricey, but I will absolutely pay it if needed. Does anyone know if the science diet prescription really is better than something like iams urinary care?

I am so grateful for the people who took time to comment. If nothing else, it is so good to feel that someone is in my little guy's corner other than me. Thank you so, so much.
